I just wish that you'd stop being so complimentary about the Civic over the Focus, your bias, having been given a Civic as a long termer, is clear for all to see.
OH WAIT
Yes I went there
Mr. Trent doesn't get this car. And I find that baffling. You're right about the obvious negative bias, although I'm not convinced it's just the free Civic. Watching him get picky as an old cook about the most trivial and mundane details, when he could be hooning the RS on a rally track and telling his readers what an absolute blast it is. I just don't get it. OH WAIT
Yes I went there
I've seen your name crop up on various threads like this, acting like the RS is big king st, and on the Civic threads acting like that is some sort of abysmal car that only a fool would buy, are you that desperate to justify your purchase, if you actually have a Focus RS, that you have to expend such an effort in posting on here in trying to convince others (well, yourself) that you made the right choice?
Sad bd.

Sounds like a bit of a crap car to me. If I was in the market, I think the Civic or Megane would be far higher up the list.
I always thought the FRS was lacking TBH.
The RS will eat the Type R and the Megane for lunch. Throw in some nasty weather or some gravel and both would be embarrassed. If you want a light, precise, tossable "fun" car for that perfect sunny weekend at the track; by all means, you've got a couple of great candidates. But the RS is simply a far more capable car. I always thought the FRS was lacking TBH.
So the Meg and R are for sunny track days? Really? I have a Caterham and Elise and guess what, I use them on road. Yes, the road. Shocking. And believe me, they would eat the Ford alive. Except when I want to go shopping of course.
How on earth did we ever get around before fat, heavy, overly complex AWD cars that do everything for you eh?

Rally inspired? Really? So it is a hatch with FWD - makes it rally inspired does it?

No. It's not FWD. It's AWD. Rally inspired? Really? So it is a hatch with FWD - makes it rally inspired does it?
Look for some information on the development of the Mk 3 RS. The engineering team describes at length their mandate, their goals, and how they developed the car.

The recent mk2 vs mk3 vid was interesting.
For me the mk2 every time.
Anyhow, a great car all the same, just glad these cars are out there TBH.

I thought the comparison video was revealing as well. The recent mk2 vs mk3 vid was interesting.

Did you notice how "terrible" and "aggravating" the seats in the Mk3 were to Matt? Spent a good bit of time on the issue, and it was unquestionably the most emotionally negative thing he said about the car. But not a mention of the seats in the Mk 2. Same kind of seats. Same height problem. But evidently they are only a problem in the new RS. Isn't that curious.

However I could think of quite a number of cars I would buy with £30k odd.

I known it is AWD - more a mistake when typing. I think it is fantastic that you have a car you like. It is just not for me. If I were in the market I would buy something else - no Ford has really ever appealed enough for me to buy one to be honest.

If you'd have said that early on, I'd support your decision 100%. But there's no need to deride a great car just because it's not your cup of tea. However I could think of quite a number of cars I would buy with £30k odd.
I would be interested in those 30K cars that are higher on your list. Before my purchase, that was the constant conundrum. I couldn't find a car with the capabilities of the RS for that kind of money. The CTR was great, but I live where we have Winter. The VW R was nice, but dull and has that sucky Haldex hang on.The STi is rough and crude and old-fashioned (which I might live with if it was faster than the RS. But it's not.) Ditto and even more so for the 5 speed EVO. There were a few other good choices. The Merc 45 for example, but it's way, way more money. Same for the Audi RS, but with that buzzkill Haldex again. I don't know. You tell me.

If I wanted something that could carry people with a decent boot etc. and had to be modern (I tend to find most new cars deathly dull), I would go for a secondhand C63 wagon, Alpine etc.
And get a set of winter tyres if required.

Only issue is constantly chucking cash and old parkas, I know cos I've been there !

I just sold a lhd 964 for north of 40k so not sure that's in the 30k bracket. Modded 996 maybe and yes actually I like your thinking there.

Kinda like the car choices, but this IS about hot hatches. You won't be bringing that new flat screen home in the 964. And boy oh boy are you right about chucking dough. Thanks, but I'll keep the RS.Only issue is constantly chucking cash and old parkas, I know cos I've been there !

Careful what you wish for - it is properly geeky stuff but if you're into that kind of thing hopefully interesting. I found it so.

Have you ever owned or drive a EVO with the AYC, if so how would you compare how the RS feels to it. I sort of saw the RS as the modern day evo with a very similar rear diff setup, but think the weight of the rs and size might not give it the placability on the road, nor the composure over the rougher tarmac.. It'd be an interesting and useful comparison .Watch this space!
