So I'm fast approaching being in the market for my next car, as much as I like my Fiesta ST I fancy moving up in terms of power.

Really like the 135 (coupe), but I'm forever reading on here just how great the R is. I appreciate they're both different cars in terms of wheels driven, so was wondering if there's anyone on here who has owned both and can give me their opinions on them?

If this has any bearing on the info I will definitely be looking at a remap once the purchase is made.

The Coupe runs on the old platform I believe, so may be somewhat behind in handling etc...

Perhaps compare the M135i and Golf R?

Would you really need to up the power on any of these for everyday use?

Do you mean the MK6 R ?

As, cost wise that is more in the same price range as the 135i Coupe.

26 ish gets you a brand new 140i

The prices seem to be mad, a 2013 with 89k I saw on is still 18 grand, makes the new one seem excellent value, brand new, later spec etc

£26,708 - Is for base with no extras. What extras would be most desirable on these?

I agree the 140 is a bargain and a much nicer place to sit over the golf R.

I have driven both and was impressed by the drive in both although they are very different .
The golf is seriously planted and fills you with confidence whereas the 140 seems more on its toes .
Depends on useage I suppose but for me the BMW just pips it

For me I would probably go for the upgraded Harmon Kardon audio and Heated Seats, not bothered about much else, oh and would go for the auto I think.

See what the brokers can do ?

I would probably just go for it but got one kid at uni, next one due in Sept, just got a request for £600 for next years accomodation.

The local BMW dealer will do one for 2 grand down and £299 a month for 4 years, obviously with a baloon, 13 something.

The 140i remaps to over 400 bhp, 500 is possible with supporting mods, however they are traction limited as standard but a remap would have to be done.

135 is way more fun, the Golf R is a more focused performance car especially as your looking to remap either.

I would have the 135 coupé over the Golf everytime as it's just as fast, maybe even quicker and can also go sideways at low or relatively high speeds and with a decent soundtrack to add to the experience courtesy of that nice 6, the Golf just does fast and that's it, very boring to potter around in and farts.

But if you want no nonsense all out grip, and rock solid stability and the performance that comes with that, has to be the Golf.

Should add that I have previous with both, remapped.

27 grand is a fair chunk of cash, but what a car for the money, maybe one day.

I've leased both (M135 and R), currently on the Golf. I agree with the above.

I miss the M135 as it keeps you on your toes and the power is addictive. The Golf has the power and is rock solid but misses a bit of the fun factor. MPG about the same.
You need to try both to see which suits you best

I saw 140i in my local dealer this week , was £37.5k. Can't remember the extras but not a long list , was 4 or 5 : karmon hard on or whatever its called, business satnav, heated seats , comfort pack I think.
