That's a lovely-looking thing, especially the rear 3/4 view.

My parents bought the newer Lexus IS saloon a year ago after being fed up with Merc reliability, and love it.

But it is absolutely pants to drive and everything feels cheap/tinny and very Toyota Avensis-ish.

The steering has no feel and the CVT box is the worst transmission I have ever encountered.

The engine is woeful as well, at the slightest hint of acceleration it feels completely overwhelmed.

I'm not sure what it is, but the car seems to lack any soul or personality.

Lovely looking thing and I'm sure it is perfect for the older buyer who doesn't care about any of these things hehe

The IS bears about as much resemblance to the LC as a Ford Focus does to the GT.

They've done it this time beautiful luxury sport coupe. Badge snobbery should be a thing of the past now.

BMW's and Merc's have all looked the same for 20 years. The Lexus Is a more radical design you see that on the road and you will go the hell is that in a good way they have serious presence.

It's a GT car - pure and simple. Luxurious inside, looks fab, effortlessly lopes across continents, sounds great.

Simples.
Indeed, a GT which doesn't generate peak torque until the top half of its rev range. They've built a (brilliant) sports car engine and shoved it into a GT and a range of barges; that just seems a pitty to me, however good the cars its being used in are at their respective remits.

ETA: Much like the V10 M5/M6, really.

Given how it sounds, you'd tend to keep it in the top half of the rev range anyway, regularly changing down for the hell of it! smile

Which is why I'd like to see it put in a car which is aimed at the sort of driving style which is in keeping with that. Driving everywhere at 7000rpm isn't very... GTish. smile

I agree it's a marmite car, quite a few positive comments on here, more than I expected to be honest.

I'm pro and con on the outside. The rear looks too fat again, like the GT-R, but it is distinctive, Toyota no longer conservative, this is no Auris. I love the interior, I think it is an interior that would you be more than happy in on the first day stroking the textures and pushing the buttons and checking the damping of moving interior parts as you would be happy 2 years later.

It is heavy, that's Lexus build for you and a big V8. Maybe it has some Landcruiser in it? smile

Considering this is big and heavy it still puzzles me why Toyota have not released the FT-1 as a Lexus to to fill out the lighter side also

Man, Toyota and Mazda just need to produce these cars man. Seriously, just do it and charge what you need to charge even if that limits the numbers you can produce.

I had an IS300h on loan, whilst my ISF was in for a few bits, and I agree, the CVT was dreadful. The car didn't inspire me at all. I was so, so, happy to get back into my older gen ISF. Probably mostly down to the glorious V8 biggrin

The GSF is a very tempting proposition in a few years.

As for the SC500, the larger wheel options will surely make this look better, as the ones on these pics do not do it any favours.

I like it but all I can say is, wow, they must have made a LOT of those climate control LCD panels back in the day, are they still putting them in cars?! How on earth can you charge that kind of money and put an 80s LCD panel in there?

Dunno what they have done with the engine but it sounds even better than the RCF and people worrying about the 10 speed auto need not. 5 Star reviews from autocar they say even with all the weight it feels more agile than the LFA lol its a totally new platform.

Only the block really from the RC F. Different intake, exhaust valves, sound tube to cabin (no artitifical sound). See YT vid I just posted.

Almost sounds like a different ecu the way the peak power vvti kicks in. Surely a few extra bhp then sounds unreal even better than LFA dare I say!

eek

LFA is on a different level of 'hairs on back of neck' - but then, so is the price smile

What a shame. There's so much potential in Lexus. Fantastic engineering, superb reliability, it's not german and generally great value. I'm sure they've delivered a great car.

But that front end is just cheap and nasty with no class. Trying to make a statement and failing completely. I'd seriously consider Lexus as I believe the brand has some great attributes but they really need to sort out the styling. Not just on this but the whole range.
