Needs to be a LHD saloon the size of a Mercedes E Class and the like. C Class would be already in the too small side. Because it's large I would like to avoid 4-pots. Nothing too old. Let's say oldest MY 2000 or so.

I don't want a BMW.

Mercedes are great but basically all automatic. Very hard to find them with a stick and in good condition.

Jaguars, the affordable ones are the older models which look too conservative and have a reputation for being unreliable. I would love a XF but it's way out of my price range.

U.S. cars will be mainly automatic and in Europe are harder to find anyway.

Japanese I think there are only Lexus. But the ones the size of an E Class are not that good looking. The smaller saloons are, but they are too small.

Is there anything else out there that I may be forgetting?

Get over the "i dont want a BMW" thing and get a 5 series, its the sensible thing to do if you want a big affordable RWD saloon

The E60 doesnt look bad

Don't know your budget but the Jag S-Type from 2002 is a pretty decent car and the 3.0 can be had as a manual. Don't think reliability is any worse than an equivalent E Class or 5 Series, but the Jag tends to be cheaper, saving you money for repairs.

Exactly. You're going to have to break one of your rules if you want the car to fit the criteria - BMW is your best bet.

There's nothing wrong with the auto Mercs they are lovely to drive and most have some sort of semi-auto function, if you get a sport model it may come with paddles in the wheel.

well if you're going to be minicabbing you'll needs lots of airfresheners....

the medium sized execs will almosy always be autos. The people who buy them new would have specc'd them so.

a RWD manual exec manual would be limited to the ones you have already listed. If you go front wheel drive (why not??) then tons of choice.

How about 4wd? I think Subaru did a saloon which wasnt an Imprezza.

But only the little 4-pots are manual, right? Too large for a 4-pot I think.

Sorry, I'm not able to get over it. And it's not only the looks.

That's automatic!

The MG ZT 260 was manual, however!

Otherwise American... Cadillac CTS maybe

Yep, you can definitely get Manual V6 Omegas. And they will be cheap, and they are huge, especially the estate model (or Caravan, as they will call it in LHD form)

Very difficult to find a petro V6 manual. I looked. I think only police had them.

Nope.

I had one, it definitely wasn't police.

It was not a common option, granted, but it was available.

Out of curiosity, what is your objection then? Im no BMW fan, but given your desired specifics (RWD, exec class, manual), the 5 series makes most sense.

Are those requirements more or less important then what other people might think when you drive by?
