I'll second the Ignis Sport recommendation - £1k should get you a very nice example (I know this as I have just sold my very nice example for £1k laugh )

OP, is it definitely a HOT hatch you require? As good as these suggestions are, many being listed are WARM hatches that are more fun than fast. Great cars in their own right but they're definitely not hot hatches.

1k isn't alot of money. A warm hatch is definitely do-able but hot hatches should be out of budget, unless it's in a bad way. A Clio 172 was the only one i could think of but could be a bit of a dog and need a bit spending on it to make it fresh.

Do you have money aside for maintenance on top of you 1k? If so, you could get a 172 and get it up to scratch? Or even up your budget and include the maintenance cost on top of the 1k for an already well-sorted 172/182? Just a thought.

Alfa 145/146/147 all with 155bhp 2.0 maybe warm rather than hot but great fun, sound good as well.
Anything 2.0 will be a QV or Ti spec in case of the 145/146, and will either be st or expensive. Id suggest searching for a 1.8, they arent that special, but at 140hp not exactly slow either.
That's just not true if you know where to look and have a little bit of knowledge

There are 2 Suzuki Ignis Sports on autotrader with low mileage and fsh, both under 1k.

Recaro seats and a rally pedigree for under a grand, can't be bad.

I back this - we have a 147 2.0TS and it is good fun. Far better than the equivalent Golf and around £1000 should get you something decent I. E. Lowish miles and full history etc.

We will be selling ours in the not too distant future and it will be missed - underrated cars IMO.

Slightly different OP, but it is still a hatch and hotter than most of what has been suggested so far - I saw a BMW 325ti Compact with 100K miles advertised on A/T at shed money last week. Depends if you fancy a bit of oversteer!

If you will accept a few knocks here and there and the prospect of a cambelt or clutch looming you can get a 306 GTi-6 for around a grand.

I've just bought one for a winter weekend car.

325ti are great cars and proper straight six howl.

Seen a few Clio 172's go for about 1k and they've not been as ropey as you might expect. May need a little work spending on them but one of the best value hot hatches out here!
+1

Clio 172 or Ford Puma 1.7 (watch for rust)

No cam belt to worry about either - worth doing the rad, stat and header tank if not been done recently and checking the rear springs ( cheap and easy to do )

Got a good spec for the money - the 3.2AMG engine would make that a very entertaining car I've often thought

I think the mags always reckoned the BM was a more entertaining steer

They did a C32 AMG variant but it was extremely rare.

I'd a 2007 C350 variant. Black leather, pan roof, upgraded sound, tiptronic, 270BHP. From memory i gave £2500 for it earlier on this year.

Maybe they did, but neither is going to be in Shed budget in the foreseeable future is it? Otherwise I would have suggested a 130i! laugh

True, true - just shooting the breeze
At 1k, for a rwd hatch I'd stick with the ti
