Confession time:
I get far more excited when I see an old-but-in-good-nick shed like this trundling around that when I see a new GTR, or M5, or whatever.
Is there something wrong with me?
Nope, as much as I admire the more modern performance metal (though I very rarely get excited about them) I do like seeing older cars out and about far more, aside from anything else, barring the odd one, I can actually afford to buy the older cars.I get far more excited when I see an old-but-in-good-nick shed like this trundling around that when I see a new GTR, or M5, or whatever.

People saying it's not a desirable choice of SOTW are completely missing the point! No, it's not desirable, it's utilitarian. Most SOTW cars carry a lot of risk, you buy them as they are desirable and were once out of your affordability but now you can buy a nail at great risk and just drive it till it pops. This is the exact opposite.
In the 90s/early noughties my dad had a Cherry. A reg, so what's that, 83/84? He paid £400 for it in around the end of the 90s and then drove it on an absolute shoestring budget for years. Probably never had a belt or plug change and oil changes every few years. Towards the end of it's life the only annual cost was getting it welded each year for the MOT. I drove that car on a handful of occasions and can say hand on heart that when taken in context - i.e. it was a basic old car - it was actually a pretty bloody good little thing! He probably got 10 years of motoring for about £1k total over the years.

Aaaahhh the memories!! 1st car I ever owned. Bought off the future father-in-law. To be honest I can't remember too much about it. Very easy to drive especially with the power steering which I considered a luxury at the time.
Also built like a tank. I remember being back ended by a mini; sounded nasty but nary a scratch on my bumper & the mini's front bumper fell off completely!!
Trouble free motoring all round.

If I had the space I'd be all over this. It's brilliant.
What's the deal these days with using "Jap"? Some people seem to think it's poor form as per this article but there's two huge UK car shows who use this term int he title. Japfest and JapDay.
Jap has been offensive in the US for quite a while but over here it has never really been used as a pejorative, the abbreviated version of Pakistani is the converse example. That's all kinds of awesome!
ETA: My neighbour had a bright red GTi saloon version of one of these, I think. G or H reg if I remember rightly, with BBS-esque alloys. Actually looked quite smart. Have a picture of it next to a BX (oddly enough).

I love a jap car. But this is really stretching that...and to rub salt in the wound, it's an auto!
Was expecting more, given the time of year?
This time of year is where the cheap cars are out in force. Was expecting more, given the time of year?
For example I won this for less than the sunny.

Great way to sign of for the year Shed! A Sunny 1.4 LS on a G plate was my first car and I loved it, it was mega reliable and just did the job without fuss. As it was the LS I had no power steering but who cares I had 4 electric windows and central locking!
It was then passed on to my brother in law who wrote it off, that was a sad day.
