Did make me chuckle how perspectives change over the years - diesel at only £1.94 a gallon back in 1990 = 42.7p a litre£3.00 a gallon as in the scary newspaper cutting = 66.1p a litre
Yet the low rate finance at "just" 15.3% APR vs. the usual 23% APR would be more scary today...

Not necessarily a car ad, but a regular in the 70's motoring publications, this Maserati driving pilot enjoying a gasper before taking his plane (and no doubt several air hostesses) to heaven and back was the epitome of cool....
I am sure I have seen the same advert but with a Cortina, rather than the Maserati...(...goes off to look through 100's of old Motorsport magazines, just to prove himself wrong)

I bet he did...! Even cooler since there were only twelve RHD Ghiblis ever built, eight coupes and four spyders. That ad sums up '70s GT car' perfectly.AMG Merc said:
Didn't this one have the gimmicky talking dash and red seat belts? Drove a new one straight off of the transporter when just launched back in the day
I think that it was just some early Maestros with the talking dash. I can vaguely remember a story from a journalist who managed to roll one down a hill. Once it had come to a rest, upside down, a synthesised voice could be heard, "oil pressure low".LanceRS said:

I remember a girl I worked with having one just like that as a company car, we thought it was a really nice looking car, the Astra CD was a similar proposition.
I had a white Orion 1600L as my first ever co car. I could either have a 1300 GL or 1600 L 1985ishEdited by ian in lancs on Sunday 5th March 13:21
