I think we need to save the Verstappen idea because it feels a lot like peaking too early.
The boy is only ever improving and he cant be person of the year for the next 5 years or so..

Chris Evans person of the year?

Erm...
some would argue this list could be c*** of the year with dennis, evans and rosberg on it

evans - "i will never do top gear" 3 months later "bow down and worship the mega shouty ego of legendness" hes not even a petrol head

rosberg wins the title and then lobs his toys out of the pram and quits, is mercedes and LH really that bad ??

I think PoloJoe should have been on the list. What great fun that was.

Oh dear, you haven't lived. I will let someone else post a link as I don't know how I'd find his legendary threads.

Person of the year is split for me between Michael Dunlop & Ian Hutchinson their genuine dislike for one another has made the Road Racing season a tad more spicy than it usually is & made the TT a much more interesting three weeks than normal, roll on 2017 for more fireworks.

As for Lap of the year I'd that has to go to Mark Higgins & his Subaru team for those laps he put in at the TT, yes me C Gebthadt did some mesmerising laps but he pounds around the Ring on a regular basis Higgins on the other hand hasn't managed 10 flying laps yet so I think his lap is more worthy of recognition.

Even though I didn't think they get close to the 600cc record (& subsiquently donated £50 to Help for Heros) I have to give credit where it's due, he was on it.

Or MD's nigh on 134mph lap of the TT course (he actually acheived 134.6mph Ramsey to Ramsey) which was ballsy.
I'd say thing of the year has to be the TT.

Almost perfect conditions in practise week,Lap records smashed to pieces. Very close racing, perfect weather, Hutchy and Dunlop pushing each other to the very limit and a Subaru side show that was genuinely amazing.

I've watched many many TTs sadly I think it'll be a while until we get another this good. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I have to agree the TT was a perfect year weather wise in fact the Road Race season as a whole had some great weather this year, the attention to detail on the car was the bit that impressed the most also the team were very open & willing to talk to all comers of course as racers we were sceptical but once we saw it everyone soon realised(& I worked out my money was gone) they were serious about trying to get to 130mph.

As for the racing it was white hot & I'm not just talking about the top ten there were lots of Personal Best laps by lots of people you won't have heard of had the place was buzzing.

Despite a harsh season in terms of losses (You'll all be remembered) 2017 is shaping up to be very special with new bikes it's looking like a cracker.

If anyone "saved" TG it has to be Le Blanc.
All the more surprising given the Police's investigation into historic sexual abuse claims were only dropped because of a lack of evidence. His show has lost half a million listeners, presumably something to do with this case.

I'd say that both Michael Dunlop & Ian Hutchinson will go down in the history books as two of the greatest riders of their generation, not just 2016.

Some of MD's races have been masterclasses in how to break the spirit of your competitors, break the lap record on the first lap, break that lap record on the second lap and back it off a bit on the next four.

Ian Hutchinson's five wins in a week was incredible but to come back from injuries that would've left most people happy just to walk again and win two more!!

Chris Harris also said he would never do top gear so are you going to nominate him for your new award?

As much as we all mostly agree that Evans was not the right man for the job, to claim he is not a petrol head is beyond rubbish.

Further to this Rosberg was far from throwing a tantrum and quitting. He very calmly and carefully made the decision then announced it. I also do not recall Nico ever sighting Lewis or the team as reasons for leaving.
