A car that deserves to be mechanically modified, so much reliable potential in that engine
Your engine may be fine, though that's distinctly debatable, the less said about the robustness of the transmission the better. Mucho bitter experience.

Sorry. IMO they ruin the car.
Yep I'm afraid I have to agree. If you have to go aftermarket, the only wheels that should grace a Skyline GT-R are Volks TE37's or BBS LM's.
Came with the car 15 years ago when I bought it, and why than wouldn't be my first choice but to say utterly horrid is a bit harsh :0). Still look better than standard IMO. If I was buying would be TE37s, not keen on the BBS's on R32s.

It will be interesting to see if all the exporters or importers will get to sell all the stock they have purchased and stored away waiting for the 25 years rule to apply to the various generations of the GTR in the USA.

Lol - try a transmission from a cosworth/Subaru/evo and compare.

It's not so much that the transmissions are a problem, more the engines make too much power. Even then it's only third that goes, diffs/transfer box/shafts etc generally good for 700+ in the cars I know and have driven.

I also know people that get on fine with the standard box at very high power. It's changing too quickly and aggressively into third that kills them - the casing flexes slightly apparently so It strips the edges of third gear. At least this is what happened to mine. Only once in ten years and definitely my fault - what happens when you're chasing lap times - cough - 52's at brands Indy wink

Can we add CE28s to that list?

I remember buying that issue of PC as a 17yo!

Got a serious itch for an old skyline but would probably prefer an r33

"top of the range Toyo Proxy T1R high performance tyres" - they aren't even top of Toyos range and "top of the range stereo" - err...not really. That (I think) Kenwood is much closer to bottom of the range than top.... Artistic license like this makes me question the honesty of the rest of the car....

Toyo Proxy T1R's are a superb tyre. I should know. Ive run them on several high performance cars that I've owned including a Mitsubishi Evo Tommi Makinen that was running 550bhp and they were excellent, flawless on road and track! As for the stereo, its actually a Sony unit wink

Beautiful car, there certainly aren't many left like that anymore; mechanically standard and clearly so well looked after. I'd venture it won't sit long at all!

I had Toyo T1R's on my Subaru and both my GT-R's, they seemed to be THE tyre of choice in the Japanese car scene back then, not really sure why but I thought they were pretty good.

Bigger twins or single turbo, fuel injectors, exhaust\intake mods and a re-map, basically you don't need to perform open heart surgery on the engine which is where things usually get complicated\expensive until you are way past 600bhp.
I, along with David Yu, ran R32 Skylines back in the mid nineties and can attest to difference between the myths and the reality of their reliability when tuned. ... which had strengthened internals and revved its heart out to 9,500 RPM making 650BHP in the process.
Of course one needs to spent a few bob to get there but it's peanuts money compared to Italian performance cars. And who needs more than 500?
