Never buying a Saab again.
Sold mine to the scrapper for £75 today, although it started first time he drove it away in a cloud of black smoke and general borkage it looked simply horrific.
Glad to see it go, I would of wanted the bd of a car to go to a person who would run it but some things can't be helped if no one wants it.
"Turbo Sport" my arse.
Nicely put - that seems to sum Saab up pretty well! (Like Ovlov - monster turbo engines, no grip, no handling finesse but allegedly M3 rivals according to the press releases - in their dreams)!

Hardly any wonder there aren't many around any more! (Thankfully) laugh

The Swedish marques are (were) big on rationality. From their view of the world, the stuff an M3 does so well is all a bit frivolous and juvenile. I don't think they've ever struggled for outright grip but the handling tends to be towards the boring side of safe and the front drive layouts can make traction an issue with lots of power. Practical, efficient, sensible, but not fun.

Yeh fairish comment, I like my SAABs but they are not the most exciting car but do the job, fastish, roomy, and very comfortable on long trips, oh.. and Aeros are fast. I'm wondering what to replace it when it gets to 300 to 400k Any Ideas out there?

Well you're not describing any exciting VW product/to replace you're Saab.

Same with Ford.

Thats the point any non fan is missing. What VW/Ford will be in this bracket?

S3/R etc won't be near the price bracket anytime soon and they too aren't exactly exciting to drive.

In addition- if you buy a 2003 etc old ANY Marque don't be surprised if the diesel thing breaks down.

It'd be a mistake to buy a Saab expecting either an RS6 or an Ultima.

But in a sea of 2 litre TDI dullness (a kind of "default" purchase these days), the 9-5 Aero makes a decent enough alternative (hence my desire to update my current one). Swift enough to be interesting, comfortable enough to cruise in, but also frugal enough to not rape your wallet every time you drive it.

I fail to see how it's either nicely put, or sums up anything pretty well! sleepera6 hasn't given us any info to go on, other than the fact he had a Saab that shat itself, presumably partly due to age and mileage, and he has the hump about it. Could be any car he is describing.

Funny how the two stand out critical posts on this one thread seem to be from people who clearly had knackers and that's baselined their opinion of them.

Last april i paid £500 for my 9-5 aero with a years mot.

The diff whines like fk and the xenon light has a fault and won't level however everyday it starts and just works.

It's a manual so you acceleration is pretty good in 3rd 4th gear just bury your foot and off you go and the heated seats are awesome when it's cold.

April is crunch time , what will it cost to get thru it's mot and is it worth spending a penny when the diff is knackered although maybe it's the rear tyre worn on the inside?

I bought a manual late last year for £700 (albeit with 181,000 miles) but its a blast. And yes, all the electrics and displays work... most of the time.

the excitement of a Turbo needle means 23mpg in a manual, but its got no-where to depreciate to!

There is depreciation - to the value of scrap.

I bought it for £400. (93 t)
Listed for £300. No calls
£250 - nothing
£150 - yes, nothing
£75 - sold

93 t is not a 9-5 Aero, thats a 318i not an M5

Basing your experience of a Focus 2.0 and using it to disparage an RS is more than a bit st.

Agreed - but let's not pretend a 9-5 Aero Hot is in the same league as an M5 (or RS6) either. Absolutely blindingly nowhere near. But it was never meant to be.

It was st end of.
I test drove a 95 Aero before by buying an Audi. It was mind numbingly dull.
