Bingo. Godda love it when people stand in judgment of those with nice things. Resentment culture.

It's especially amusing when they accuse others of only having nice things because they're image conscious. 710hp is only just enough to pull the irony out of a swamp of money.
Resentment culture? Why can't PH'ers separate objectivity from subjectivity? An attack on a car is not an attack on your political outlook or you way of life.

Should we automatically be subservient to anyone who can spend this much on what some might deem to be an inferior car for the money, or do you just respond with the stock envy/resentment/jealous reply?

What would you call someone who spends this sort of money on a car that shares nearly all of its components with a car that costs less than a third of that?

Or do we exclude wealthier car buyers from criticism even when those arguments might just be valid to some in this instance?

I've got a GT Speed. Does it make sense? No. Does it make me laugh out loud when I take 2.5 tons of metal round a roundabout at 50mph dead flat or engage warp speed going onto a Motorway? You betcha.

Not everything in life has to make sense.

Your view of the car is entirely acceptable. Not my cup of cocoa either if I'm honest.

My comment was referring to the taste, morals, status, driving ability, lifestyle of the people you assume buy these. It is bigotry by any other name. If you were talking about race, gender or sexuality in that way you'd be locked up.

I'm sure a wide variety of people buy Bentleys. Might have one myself when comfort gets priority over handling, which I'm sure will happen.

In my time I have had an R8 (PH view - I am am an Audi-driving tt who can't afford a Lambo, a 458 Spider (therefore I'm an attention-seeking poser who can't drive because it's a convertible), an AM V12 Vantage (jingoistic Brit).

It's just offensive, simple thinking TBH

I think bigotry is far too strong a word.

I mentioned before I think the continental is lovely looking thing that has stood the test of time design wise.

I personally wouldn't spend that sort of cash on a car that is perceived as bespoke when it isn't under the skin.

yes

Not that offence needs to be taken.

Views on the car will of course vary, as you pointed out.

Personally I wouldn't call them anything. That seems to be the reserve of people with a chip on their shoulder. If I was to stop and think about it, I'd assume they were a person who fancied a Bentley and could afford one.

The End.

That's utterly fabulous, but I'd need a rear wing delete option to tick.

Ooh you are naughty hehe there's a spare seat on the No 10 bus heading to hell and we appear to be competing for it wink

As it happens I agree with the rear wing delete, it was something I was pleased with on the Koenig-bodied 328.

A Gurney flap would be more in keeping with the rest of the car in my view, the aero could still be sorted that way (I suspect, not having looked at Bentley's wind tunnel data).

It's still awesome.

Don't get too upset, you're wrong, it doesn't happen with special edition Ferraris or Lambos because they generally aren't seen as vulgar.

Ok Lambos are seen as a bit vulgar smile That's part of the attraction.

So by that logic you are equally as bad as those who perceive such spending as nonsensical, when you say they have a chip on their shoulder for having a different opinion to yours?

But vulgarity is in the eye of the beholder.

From experience there are more than one or two folks who take exception to Ferrari ownership (by somebody else). Not that such people should influence others' car choice from their position at the bottom of the pond.

smile

Personal taste in the aesthetics of car design is personal. Who knew!

My own sacrilegious view is that anything remotely batmobile lacks elegance and is short on svelte good looks generally, so I find modern McLarens unpalatable, also Zondas and Regeras etc, and the angular Lamborghinis likewise. A decent Diablo however would be thoroughly indecent and may yet be too tempting to resist.

Driving experience is one thing, all of the above especially the hypercars are relatively peerless but the total ownership experience is more than that and I'd still have to see its face/profile/rear every day leading to divorce...or indeed no first date.

I could live with a Bentley Continental Supersports at 700+ bhp if there's one going spare, even with the rear wing (I grew accustomed to the Bangle Butt so anything is possible).

Nearly all components with the Phaeton ?

Wouldnt that be some components, might fit ?

Different engine, body, interior.

The floorpan was related, so the suspension may be but rated differently, as would the brakes.

Cant see there being much in common, and even if they were, for a lot of people only need a badge to change their mind, stuff they cant see wont make any difference.

I've personally never seen a chav driving a Bentley. A modified Corse, sure. Often a st looking Lupo....but never a Bentley.

I can only assume you live in a place where 'chav' is anyone who can 'only' afford a £170k Bentley. Lucky you.
Oh really????

Hey leave Gulzar alone, I think he attained PH legend status a while back ;-)

Not necessarily. Surely a chav who becomes rich can sill be a chav ?

The Oxford English Dictionary defines "chav" as an informal British derogatory, meaning "a young lower-class person who displays brash and loutish behaviour and wears real or imitation designer clothes".[4

Sounds like most English footballers to me. Many of whom drive blinged up Bentleys.
No, the guy that owns it is most definitely chavvy. EXTREMELY.
I don't get it ? We are in agreement surely ?
Sorry, meant to quote the post above and couldn't be a***d to change it.
