Nope, I think they are ugly as st, very dated these days as they just keep facelifting it, and it really is a bit council, just no real redeeming features of them, in my opinion
There's only one person in Britain who is allowed to think of CGTs as " a bit council" .....

Even the first boggobasic CGT has many redeeming features:
6 litre W12 twin turbo engine
550 bhp and close to 500 lb ft
4 wheel drive
iconic design
superlative interior

Then there's this:

http://www.bentleyworld.org/wp-content/uploads/201...

Posts mentioning who else drives a CGT (or has owned one) as a reason for others to take exception to the car are on this thread iirc - but there will also be a rarefied mix of owners for any expensive / fast / prestige / sports / GT car ever made. So what?

It's a surprise to read on PH that peer pressure still operates beyond about five past nine in the morning on the first day at infant school, by which time anyone with the sense to make up their own mind when taking personal decisions has worked out that caving in to what others think can only be an option for indecisive approval-seekers.

OK maybe two minutes past nine is closer but it's still a bit on the long side.

If you don't like them, don't buy one. Given the possibility exists, of course.

I won £7.80 on last night's Euromillions; is that enough?

I'm sure that Sir can have his interior as extravagant or subtle as Sir wants it.

Eggzackery.

I'd have one. Even with the "offensive" rear spoiler.

If only...previous generation CGTs with the pop-up rear wing had 'expletive' and 'deleted' toggle options on the centre console aerofoil button, instead of arrows.

The owner of the above component probably wants their Start/Stop button back. Anyone?

Having owned a 600hp GT Speed, I feel I can make a few informed comments. They are a very pleasant car to sit in as long as you don't go mad with the colour scheme. Passengers love it, even in the back. Those that accuse it of being a jumped up Phaeton really miss the point.

Having driven mine all over Europe, the GT moniker fits well, though once off the motorways it's no sportscar recognising the prodigious performance. So accelerating out of an autoroute toll booth is quite addictive, driving through the mountains less so. It's too big, too heavy, and the steering is too numb.

Less good bits? Well mine (admittedly a 2010 car) had the least good in car entertainment/ sat nav/ communication system of any car I've ever owned. My same aged 3 series Beemer was significantly better. For a car of its value, not good enough, indeed a real let down given it's VW roots.

But the real issue for me was the reliability, and the Bentley 'service'. Had I owned the car without a warranty, the non-service costs would have been over £10k for the year I owned it. Not only that, but Bentley quibbled about almost everything. This included the replacement of the electric boot mechanism (I hate these in all cars!), and most significantly, when I heard a knocking sound from the front suspension, it turned out the wrong components had been fitted when the car was made! Hardly a wear and tear issue, yet it took a lot of effort to sort.

On this final point alone, I'd never own another Bentley. Porsche do everyday GTs so much better (and in my extensive ownership experience with far better after sales service and reliability). If I wanted another barge, I think I'd have a crack at an S Class coupe. Bit more understated, bit less bling, and with a decent sat nav!

It's not always the case. My dad drove a 4.2 TDI Audi A8 with intent to buy but said it drove and handled like a boat. He then drove a BMW 535d Touring shortly afterwards and put a deposit down on it straight away. He said it was much more fun to drive, despite it being used mainly as a motorway hack for work.

Less sense than you, or just more money? Envy is not a good look.
Please be honest... If you were on £500,000 to £1M a month (many top footballers are) would you not drive one of these? I just don't see that hate for highly paid footballers. They may have been chavs (with chav tastes) when they were young but now they are just really rich - perhaps with chav taste still. In no way does it detract from the amazing Bentleys.

The CGT has always had the issue of being too VW Phaeton related. I much prefer the Mulsanne which still has a Bentley engine.

I was thinking more the branding/image/looks than how they actually drive.

Admittedly I've not owned a Phaeton, but I've been in one and they are a long way apart in reality. It's a bit like suggesting a v10 Lambo is like the old Audi S8 because they had the same engine, or that a Rolls is actually a 7 Series. In the flesh these cars are very different even if they seem similar on paper. To put that into context my GT Speed had the best part of 200 more hp than a W12 Phaeton. The brakes and suspension set ups are very different, and of course the interiors are many miles apart. Sure you pay for the badge, but you do when you choose a VW badge over a a Skoda or an Audi badge over a VW.

The Mulsanne is a very different car. It's a big saloon after all. Yes it has the V8 heritage, but anyone who hasn't sampled the W12 should. Whilst I wouldn't own another Bentley (any of them) I'm glad I did. As an aside, the CGT was much loved by my wife and my mother who don't understand the cultural connotations of the car. There are few interiors as special....as long as you keep the schoolboy/ arab colour schemes and trim combinations under control!

I am not saying that the CGT isn't a great car overall. Especially when it first came out it was really impressive and with no competition as a relatively compact, luxury, effortless, comfortable 4wd GT.
Also you are right that Phaeton in reality feels a lot different, I have been in both back when they first came out. But they are still very related in reality. I used to work for a company that manufactured and supplied components, same part numbers for Bentley, Audi and VW platform.
It is just a psicological thing for me but I can't stop thinking to all that common parts, which would not be an issue for an other car maker, but my idea of Bentley badge is related to heritage so I would prefer something less German.
I also have to say that a much younger people have become Bentley customers and this was good news but some of them have shown a certain lack of elegance and this hurted a bit my perception of the badge. But I am being particularly picky, I am sure that behind the wheel of a CGT much of this would just diseappear and I would just enjoy the car.

It purely depends on what you want from a car. Bentley is a very prestigious and appealing brand for some but it's not for everyone. My point was that my dad, now being 64, still wants something a bit more engaging to drive as apposed to a large, comfy, wallowy armchair.

It's all subjective and maybe my view will change with age. To me, it's just something i'd never go for, if i could afford it that is. There's just too many other cars out there that appeal to me so much more than any Bentley product.

My old man is now getting rid of the Beemer, due to a change in work circumstances, and is now buying a Porsche 911 Carrera 2S.
