Jesus wept PH, who gives a stuff how much it weighs?

It's got 400 bhp and looks fantastic.

As someone above said, I bet no one who is complaining about the weight has ever driven one, and gone "oh I like this apart from the weight".

Are you seriously telling me you can't tell the difference between the handling and responsiveness of one car and another weighing 300kg more??? Because it really is bloody obvious.

Seriously, forget bhp - anything much above 200bhp/tonne* is overkill for most English/Welsh roads anyway - it's how a car responds and handles that is more relevant. And for that, Colin Chapman was 100% right...

* Funnily enough, given how much these lard-arses weigh, the bhp/tonne of a V6 is < 200bhp/tonne and a V6S is only a little over. For reference, a 987 Boxster-S has better power-to-weight, and therefore will accelerate more quickly...

The PH doctrine repeated word for word, well done.

Couldn't we just make that block of text a sticky, rather than repeating it in almost every thread about a modern performance car?

Do people think Jaguar made the F-Type deliberately heavy?

Can anyone here state categorically that they test drove one and didn't buy it because it weighed 300kg too much?

Havoc likes to bang his drum incessantly about the F type, despite the 300kg difference being more like 150kg vs a 911 and it nevertheless getting excellent handling and driving dynamics reviews.

I bought one and wish I'd kept my 911, does that count? It is a GT car, not a sports car. Once you accept that, there isn't a weight argument to be made, in my opinion.

I agree, its a GT not a sports car.
It would be interesting to know how much weight could be saved (and cost) if they brought out a limited edition (cos that's the fashion) club sport type version though, and had a crack of turning it into a sports car.

Looking at those interior shots there is loads of luxury crap that could be binned: There appear to be controls for electronic seat adjustment. It's got ridiculous motorised air vents on the dash. Get rid of the infotainment rubbish. Yes it might not weigh much but it weighs more than a thin strip of blanking plastic in its place. Look at all the buttons on the steering wheel! ditch all of that crap (and whatever it is those buttons do in the first place), the sound deadening, put cheap thin (lightweight) carpet in it, get rid of as much trim as possible.
No doubt the inherent design of the car would mean it is still heavier than comparable sports cars (whatever they are...) but so what. It would be the best F-Type currently possible.

It could result in a halo model that admittedly most rich folk wouldn't want to buy but they would enjoy the added 'sporty' credentials it bestows on regular jags just like the fancy versions of porsches and ferraris.
Who knows it could be a classic, even a worthy successor to the E-Type!

All those years of protoype 'modern E-Types' i really thought that one day i would have one. Sadly that car never arrived, in its place was a GT just like everything else....
Still hoping for a proper modern day Jag sports car.

And this would make a good car in to a crap car. Weight is NOT everything. It's an expensive sports-GT car - getting rid of the nice features that makes a car 'complete' to save a few kg is a waste of time in my view. Saving 100kg - 6% of the weight...you just wont notice it, but you will notice the lack of a nice hifi, comfort features like active cruise etc.

I am expecting that those who complain about the weight haven't actually driven or owned the car. From what I hear, weight is not the issue here...if anything, traction is.

Err, the E type was a GT not a sports car apart from a handful of lightweight racing versions and became even more GT throughout it's life...

Agreed. I fancy a manual, smallest wheels, minimal options, dark green or blue over tan leather, chrome window trim preferred. Lush.

I recently swapped my old V8V for a V8S F Type, the best move I've ever made. I've had more compliments in 2 months ownership than I had in years with the Aston, even being told off last week by a police man for smoking a tab in such a beautiful car tongue out

It makes my old V8V feel like a car from the 90's and sounds so much better. The power difference is unreal, you really have to respect it in the current wintery conditions. Can't wait for summer to come around and get that roof down.

The new styling changes are very minor, but I do quite like it.

Yer.

But no. (don't 'look' right, even if it might ride or handle better.)

But yer. Saw an XE in the new metallic BRG the other week and IMHO it's a stunning colour.
