RE: Honda Civic Type R Black Edition

Such an incredibly overzelously styled car. They just look ridiculous and poorly thought out with bits stuck on.
Unfortunately despite how decent it may be to drive it will depreciate hard this year when the new one is released. Some bargains to be had soon.
Black edition is just following the herd and a last gasp effort to get rid.
I mean how bad are those rear arches? Gappy and just look badly aftermarket. From this angle the car looks a mess. And what is that vertical bit stuck on to the rear quarter panel above the corner of the bumper meant to be? Check those aech gaps.....
From every angle the car looks a mess. Shouty design with a jumble of angles, curves and stick-on 'features'. It's a shame, because it delivers stonking performance and handling from all accounts and must be a hoot to drive. You wouldn't park it and walk away thinking "yeah, the design guy's at Honda got this so right..."Unfortunately despite how decent it may be to drive it will depreciate hard this year when the new one is released. It is quite a busy design (and the concept was a fair bit better - better integrated rear wing and arches), but it has a certain bonkers charm. Definitely very JDM-style rather than German pared-down though.

I like them, I also work at the Swindon plant where they are made. I think there was around 9,000 units in total and I know this 'Black edition' as Special edition, on the centre console there is a numbered plate and these 'special editions' have SE before the build number. I prefer the SE white ones with white wheels with red rim decals, red mirrors and red spoiler end plates as well as the different interior.

Just look at it!!Image from Car magazine's long term test.
What a total own goal cluster fk. It's like it was designed by a committee of teenagers.
Although not as good as the concept, I like the look of them. It's definitely bold, but if you'd rather blend in there's always the likes of the Leon, Golf etc.
Seen one in red this morning at the petrol station while i was waiting to use the air line. Even Mrs Hood and child Hood liked the look of it and they hardly ever comment on any car!
Oh and I'm 46

I am, of course, biased!

It trips the airflow a bit giving a small reduction in drag, and increase in fuel economy. From the front it is a good looking car but that rear 3/4 or profile angle and it looks pretty hideous.
I like how the automatic answer to people who don't like the styling of the Type R seems to be well you can always buy a Golf if you want to be boring and blend in. NO the only choices shouldn't German sleep inducing blandness or this monstrosity, there has to be a happy middle ground. It seems car designers have forgotten how to do aggressive without going OTT and throwing everything including the kitchen sink at it.

Despite being an old fart I think this rear end is just brilliant - if you're going to make an OTT hot hatch, might as well go full-on bat***t bonkers with it. Not quite so keen on the production version but hey, there are so many truly dull cars around I am glad there are a few properly weird ones too. Some like it, some hate it, but at least it provokes a reaction unlike most of the bland identikit dross around.Nersha said:

Alas, house move, ffs.
I am a huge Honda fan, I have driven and owned many Hondas since my 12 year driving career and I currently own an Accord Type-R which I love alot.
I thought I will input my review on the FK2 having had experience in one and also one which has been modified, they are really great handling cars, the turn in is sharp and handling is superb and gives you alot of confidence. The car itself is quick but you would expect that. However, in terms of looks, I am still not sold on it having seen many of them, I am more in the 90's/very early 00's era when Honda did their Type-R's subtle, with a spoiler here and splitters on the bumpers there. It remained subtle but had a beast of an engine and a chassis/handling that was a dream. Despite it being great to drive and well worth the long wait it took for these to come out, think these look horrid and OTT. The upcoming CTR is also a mess IMO but I am sure it will sell.

Brilliant, I love these.
I like how outlandish and over the top it is, if you want dull and bland buy a Golf-R/GTi/GTD, at least these look like a hot hatch.
And another, that makes it about the 20th time in this thread already. Who says originality is dead hey? I like how outlandish and over the top it is, if you want dull and bland buy a Golf-R/GTi/GTD, at least these look like a hot hatch.
In fact, can we just copy and paste the bit in bold as a reply to anyone who dares to suggest they don't like the Type R's styling, would probably save a bit of time.
