RE: The American Dream: six US cars we want to own
Discussion
Speaking from the west side of the pond:
1. The consensus here is that the Camaro is better in every way when compared to the Mustang. Granted the GT350 is sweet, but I'd take an SS over a GT any day.
2. I wonder how many here complaining about the "quality" of these cars has ever actually used one or even sat in one. Also, here in the US Audi and BMW have terrible reputations for reliability. Given that (I believe) the vast majority of Audis and BMWs sold here are made in Europe, I'm uncertain what accounts for the difference in perception.
3. The CTS and CTS-V have been reviewed as better handling cars than comparable European cars (say, the 5 series) for several years here. The perception here is that BMW has lost it a bit over the past decade. Again, I'm uncertain why this perception hasn't percolated through the Euro motor press. Note: while I'm not a fan of the CTS, but it's supposed to be one hell of a car dynamically.
4. The Raptor is way too softly suspended and way too heavily tired for the road. It's also not all that fast. It's for offroading, obviously. If that's what you want, a dedicated offroading vehicle, fair enough. However, a big, comfortable F-250 or Sierra Denali should be what the majority of you really want. These trucks are completely silly but wonderful in daily use.
5. I know a guy who commutes in a neon green Hellcat. This makes me proud to be 'Murcan.

One of many z/28 vs gtr battles on youtube when the z/28 wins.

As for the new ZL1, I'm pretty sure it has no competition, other than maybe a Z06 c7 with the z07 package.

I never said European Fords were interesting. But I do think the overall quality is much better than the American couterparts.
The challenge is, they are built to a price point primarily for a market with a different set of priorities.Options are to either put the price up or compromise somewhere.
Personal preference, I'd much rather have a sod off big engine than a nice touch interior.

Sorry but you have missed the point of the 3 pony cars Mustang ,challenger ,and camaro they are a performance and modifiable car with both an afordable price tag and maybe most important for the target market they pay homage to the sixties originals hence the compromised interior , very much how Jaguar did until they decided it was better business to make them british audi clones ... If people want a tax efficient rep mobile they can buy a euro bland in white with a tiny diesel or petrol audi merc jag or any other white goods car ... they can then enjoy the plastics and the fuel economy while the mustang etc driver gets rid of his or her rear tyres while getting a little sideways and can enjoy the exhaust note and look at the performance parts catalog in his lunch hour ...
This guy gets it.Funny how things change isn't it?
I remember US cars being berated for being rubbish, yet now they are producing among the best drivers cars.
There is plenty of whispers of the ATS-V being better than the M3/M4, and muchbetter, at that.
Good twin-test PH, take note! Or maybe a full Us vs the European equivalent??
Out of that lot, the Dodge Viper..But realistically the CTS-V for stealth. Stunning V8. Pisses on the M5's muffled and false sound....

Would love that engine... but in the F150 (or for myself the Cummins in a RAM 1500, some of the engines I work on as a generator technician are Cummins and I love them!).
The 1500 Ram diesel is the VM fiat 3 liter v6 you need a 2500 or 3500 to get the 6.7 I 6 cummins ISB engine .. or you could get the big US market Nissan that has a V8 cummins in it !!!

You can have it with the Ford. The new 2017 F250 is basically the same aluminium body shell as the F150 these days with a different grille & lights.
You can get the 6.7 now with 440hp & 925 lb/ft
F150 for comparison

Mustang is only new car I would consider buying now. I tend to have classics (Corvette C3 is one), but drove a Mustang on western end of Route 66 last year, and then a 2.3 litre convertible version up California Highway 1. Even the 2.3l was fun. I love Corvettes but the Mustang is better and cheaper.........
