I'm sure you do.

But here in the real world, will you be rejecting THAT car and getting a full refund, or accepting it?
We'll have to wait and see. 50/50 at the moment.

Just playing devils advocate, but what if AM had spotted the wrong paint code at final inspection and sorted it without the customer being any the wiser, just a call from the dealer to say the cars been delayed a week or two due to a 'supplier part issue'. scratchchin

Well done to all the Columbos out there, yes it is a GT8.

I went to AM HQ today to meet with the dealership guys to see what could be done. On arrival as i waited to be let in i saw a familiar blue V12S pass by me. As the gate opened to let the car in i followed it and watched it pull up in the CEO space. I parked up as quickly as possible and walked over to the car as Dr Palmer was getting out. Not wanting to miss the opportunity to put my complaint in to the top man in person, i quickly introduced myself.

I explained to him that i was there to see the dealership guys as my car had been painted in the wrong colour. He asked which car it was and i told him. He was very shocked to hear that this had happened. He told me that he would look into and find out how this could of happened and for me to speak to the dealership guys to see what solution they would offer. He then gave me his contact details and told me to get in touch with him if i was not happy with the outcome. We then spoke for a little while about his V12S, GT8(the one in reception) and how committed he was to excellent customer service.

I have to say he is a real nice guy and seemed genuinely concerned at the situation.

On entering reception i was greeted by the sales exec and sales manager for the dealership and taken over to see the car. Firstly they apologised for the situation and told me that they are investigating on both sides to see how this could happen. I then saw the car and have to say all GT8's look good but this one looks amazing. I had a good look around to see if the rest of the spec was correct, which it seemed to be and then discussed the options with them.

As things stand they will be getting back to me next week so I have the weekend to decide what i would like to do.

Your car? The wrong-colour one? Seems like there's an easy answer, then...

Good on AM and the dealer for taking it so seriously, even if neither of them actually want to stick their paw up on whose cock-up it was.
Yes, the wrong colour one. If it had been in the colour i wanted i can now only imagine how good it would have looked!

I've been reading this thread for the past few days and I really feel for the op as I hate silver cars but like them in grey, especially more visually dramatic cars. I also wasn't sure of the body kit on the GT8 in any of the pics posted prior to the actual car above. However I think that color combo looks fantastic.
Thanks. I'm not too keen on silver cars either, but as you say it looks great on this.

Is that satin? Looks incredible to be honest. Told you Palmer would be a good dude and try help! Sounds like you're happier. Are you planning on tracking this? I'm curious how my car would compare in reality so would jump on a day with you if so smile
Hi Ash, thanks. Sorry i have no plans to track it at the moment. Will let you know if things change.

I'd just take the car, mate. You've waited a long time for it and, whilst the situation must be very frustrating, it'd be a crying shame to miss out on the car you've waited so long to buy. That said...

Is that a matt silver paint? Was the grey you ordered matt too? Accepting a car in the wrong colour is one thing, but to live with something with the wrong type of sheen (especially one as potentially difficult to maintain as a matt colour) is another!
Yes its Satin Titanium Silver. I ordered a satin finish. Its going to be a pain to maintain for sure!

Wheres the OP.... this needs updating!

Things needed

- Outside shots
- Next steps with dealer
- Exhaust/start up video
- Picture of OP with big beaming smile!

etc etc
Sorry no outside shots or start up for a couple of weeks. This one has light shining in from the exit.

Dealers have been very good. Also AM have been very good. Just awaiting final confirmation of offer but just be a satisfying outcome.

Sorry no pictures of OP.

At this point we do not even know who made the mistake, three choices:

1) OP - signed an order with the wrong colour
2) Dealer - sent through order with wrong colour
3) Aston Martin - painted it wrong colour

Take your pick. Nothing in this thread to make any sort of decision, zero facts available.
1) If a order form with wrong colour had been signed i would have accepted the car as it came. Order does say Satin Scintilla.

I'm not sure who's error it is, but i have told that more robust procedures are to be put in place to stop it happening again.

If you've been dreaming about an Aston for 'over 20 years'. I'm assuming you fell in love with the then; gentleman, elegant, subtleties of Aston Martins of that era.

Why have you then ordered a car that looks something along the lines that the Project Kahn design department would reject as being too over the top?

Just curious. The V8 Vantage has slowly got more and more gopping since launch.
Unbelievable
Yes i have wanted to own a Aston for 20 years if not longer. As a kid i use to watch 007 and wanted a Aston and then in 1996 my cousin bought a new Virage Volante and a DB4. At the time, as i had not long had a drivers licence he would not let me drive the Volante, because of the value, but gave me the keys to the DB4 because it was less expensive(how things have changed). I then drove around Yorkshire over the summer in a DB4 and told myself that one day i would own a Aston.

When the V8 Vantage arrived in 2005, i was lucky enough to have one for a week or so and then decided that i would get myself a Vantage at some point.

For sure the GT8 may not to be to everybody's taste but i think it looks pretty much perfect and for me at this point in gives me what i want from a car and is a AM.

Not trolling, just my opinion;

I hope it looks better in the flesh than the pics - for me the black/silver is a very harsh contrast, whereas the darker grey/black would be less two-tone.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - and good new the OP is getting what he wants. Hope it's a decent slice though as the journey from "no way am I having the car" to "I love it and everything's OK" has been a quick one.

My preference would have been to be sent back to the fatory to be re-worked to my spec - with a full paint inspection prior to reassembly (by me).

Congrats OP on realising a dream!
I think the pictures are pretty good but it does look different when seeing it in person.

In a ideal world a new car would have been great, but unfortunately building a new car was not a option. I did have my fingers crossed and hoped that they would build me a stripped out GT8S 1of 1 but its not possible!

have you managed a decent compromise?
Yes. I am still slightly disappointed that its not the colour ordered but the dealers and AM have been excellent. Sometimes mistakes happen but it is how they are resolved which defines how good a company is in my opinion and this case both dealer and AM have been excellent. They recognise that a mistake has been made and have done all that is realistically possible to resolve it.

It is fair to say that i am totally satisfied with the outcome and look forward to collecting the GT8 and hopefully other Astons in the future.

I'd like to thank the dealership and AM and in particular Dr. Palmer and Paul Collett for following up to make sure i was happy with everything.
