The rear seats probably weigh about 5kg each. Waste of time!

Maybe so but if I had one and either couldn`t use, or had no use for the seats i`d ditch them. Really there`s not going to be major weight saving done but I`d like to see what if any changes a few more ponies and a few kilos off would make. I would love to see the GT being more popular than it is, the AE86 had a similar setup, not huge power or weight but so much fun to drive, and I want that in a new chassis

I'd not be concerned about an extra 40whp, more the torque load on the rods at low RPM, most other UK tuners seem decided on 280-300whp/ 330ish at the crank as the safe tune limit for standard rods?
Most other tuners just dyno the car and see if it blows up.
Cosworth took the engine out and had it on an engine dyno for hundreds of hours, they also did material analysis and FEA on the rods to determine safe limits. I'd trust their figures over most anyone else.

The issue with the rods is they are sintered, so there's a fairly large variation in strength relative to a forged rod. Cosworth aim their kit so that even people at the weak end will be fine, most others aim for an average to strong rod being fine. If you have a car with weak rods, you're out of luck though...
Interesting!

Have you got their findings or write-up?

I was going to go with Tuning Developments turbo, may still.

Post from Matt@Cosworth about halfway down this page: http://www.gt86ownersclub.co.uk/forum/fa20-carnage...
That's all the info they have published so far as I know.

TD turbo is a good bet (hard to beat at the price), you can dial it up and down easily, and they tend to set it up for low boost as a first stage.

they're actually incredibly light! Just a bolt on cushion for the base which is literally <1kg

They provide a useful amount of sound deadening too. It's noticeable with the seats folded, I'd imagine it would be worse with them stripped out. There are better places to try to save some weight.

For me personally I wouldn`t mind the extra noise or even sacrifice some comfort to make a car fun to drive, especially if it`s used as a weekend and occasional track day car. I`m used to doing track days and rallies as a co-pilot in an Alfa 75 with a driver that goes out purely to go sideways, the GT is not going to match that but a little more noise I can live with.

A totally imperceptible 3kg weight saving, with the trade off being massive tyre & exhaust drone - sounds great!! rolleyes

from seats alone, it may not be practical but if I buy a car for weekend blasts or trackdays noise isn`t an issue,For everyday use or a long comfortable journey I use my A6. The only reason I`d have a GT is for fun and right now they`re a more than I`m willing to spend for that kind of fun
