Yokohama A001-R I had on my Group A spec Talbot Sunbeam Ti back in the mid 80's. Cracking tyre, and probably better than the later Yoko A008 that I ran on my Sunbeam-Lotus.

Fond memories of the old Goodyear Rallye Special's from the 70's/early 80's as well.

But you can't beat a set of these Firestone Deluxe Champion wide white walls biggrin

In the early 1980's my first car with alloy wheels and low profiles was a Fiesta Supersport and the tyre of choice was a Pirelli P6...I thought they looked so cool and gripped amazingly well compared to normal tyre's, 80's cars I miss them.

Apparently there is a video of Donald Trump claiming he drove a Mk2 MR2 turbo on snow with them. bow
And of course The Donald was telling the truth. He always does.

Anyhow, a bit disappointed, those aren't really old school are they? I was expecting the General Grabber or Kelly Charger to get a name check when I saw the thread title.

I've got underpants that pre-date those Yokos.
Go on then, tell us about how you got a bit of wheelspin whilst driving a Jeep AND firing at the Nazis with a Thompson submachine gun because you were on Dunlop Euromasters 1939 and not the 1944 model .... tongue out hee hee

Goodyear G800 Super Steel. Good enough for Sir Robert Mark, good enough for me. And "A major contribution to road safety"

These for me were a revelation in traction abilities of my car. Predictable in skid mode too. It's a fun tyre.

Goodyear Eagle NCT2.
I was just going to add that. I met the lead developer of that tyre about 5 years ago. He was thrilled to hear that it is remembered as a great tyre. I did tell him the steering was only average though, couldn't let his head get too big! This tyre gave a giant jump in wet road grip and predictability, the limit was just so broad and friendly.

Yep, I had these on a MK1 Golf GTI long ago and they were superb in crappy conditions.

An early form of winter tyre - the Town and Country.

My dad used to have these on his Rallycross and Autocrss Mini Cooper S and would use them on the road in winter great for the snow and ice;

Does the P600's fitted to my Dads XR3i count?

Loved these! Had a set on my 4 speed 1.1 J reg Fiesta. Got through the fronts in 6k miles! They were lovely and soft and sticky for a mainstream tyre... as a 17 year old I'm pretty sure they saved my bacon on more than one occasion.

I remember the advert at the time with water squirting out of the "Aquajets" = don't know how they filmed that. I had a set for my Riley 1.5 in 1972. First rainy day and we all took it in turns to hang out of the window at 70mph to try and see the squirting.......
Good tyres though.

Originally designed for the XJ6 in 1968. E VR70 15. (205/70.15) Looked effin' huge to us used to 5.60x13 cross plys!!

On the off-road front, who remembers the old BFGoodrich Trac Edge? (this now lives on as a remould by Insa Turbo)

These, had them on my s2a then the 80 inch. Never got stuck in snow or muddy fields towing the wife's horse box, and got over 80k out of a set. Brilliant tyres. Had Avon zz3 on the first mgf I had, replaced them with too t1r which were a bit crap to be honest.

A539s are where it's at.

I could wear fronts out in 3k miles on an Alfa 33 16v.

Ultimate imo! Had these on my 106 GTI!

How about this remarkably old fashioned "tyre of the future"?

Dunno if they are too recent for this thread but the Goodyear S02 was a perfect tyre for my Chimaera. I found them to be very progressive and controllable. The tyres since them just have not given me the same sense of understanding of what my car is doing on the road surface. frown
