... the Dartford crossing. Can we please put this urban myth to rest.
Every time a conversation comes up with anything to do with the crossing some bright spark will say something along the lines of, the worst part is it's owned by the French, no it isn't. The crossing has never been owned by the French, it is not presently owned by the French & there are no plans to sell it to the French.
It is owned by us & controlled by Connect plus on behalf of Highways England. Connect Plus also control the rest of the M25 & some surrounding roads, Connect Plus parent companies are Balfour Beatty, Atkins & Egis Road Operations UK.

Slightly off topic but talking about paying to use it got me thinking about up here in Liverpool. Same with mersey tunnel, supposed to only pay till it was paid for! If you didn't want to pay to go through tunnel could go long way round across the Runcorn bridge which was free ( its only a bridge ffs anyway ) but now they are building another bridge to ease congestion but it will be tolled; fair enough if don't want to queue then pay, but no, gonna introduce charges on old bridge aswell!
The motorist who works either side is gonna have to pay I think about £2 each way now so an extra £20 / week just to go to work!
They have said if you live in Halton area then will have concessions but not everyone who works either side lives right next to it.
Yet again more charges just for having the " luxury" of owning a car and having to work!

Partly true, seems about a third of the Second Severn Crossing is owned by the French construction company Vinci, however it appears over half of Vincis' shareholders are companies from outside of France so strictly speaking they aren't that much of a French company.Is that true??

This reduces to £5 for crossings between 09.00 to 12.00 and 19.00 to 22.00.
The current £2.50 charge will apply between 12.00 and 15.00.
All reduced by 25% if you have an account, how generous of them.
22.00 to 06.00 will still be free.

Why the sensitivity on the part of the OP when 5 minutes googling reveals that:-
"Egis is 75% owned by the French “Caisse des Dépôts” and 25% owned by Iosis Partenaires, (a “partner” executive and employee shareholding)."
With no information on the websites as to what proportion of the consortium Egis owns.
So the company that owns and operates the Dartford Crossing is partly owned by the French.

Blackwell & RotherhitheTunnels are hell at peaks already & often shut for repair evening & weekend. Woolwich Ferry is either suspended due to weather or running a half service due to ferries being in repair, there is supposed to be 3 boats so there is always a spare.
Local residents get a discount for crossing it all day every day.
Probably not the most practical solution, but maybe introduce banded charging for trucks, to try & keep them off the crossing at peak times?
