It's strange sometimes you don't realise what is the best/memorable untill they're gone..! I can think of a few 911's one being a 930 LE but the one that stands out to me is the BMW Z8.. one car which i whish i'd never sold as i'll never own one again thay way the price's have gone..! another one back in it's day was the Z3M Coupe but managed to get my hands one a few years back which is now for keeps..!

I've had many memorable car/experiences for various reasons so it's tough to choose. Probably this little fella - principally because I never really thought I'd get to own one.

I have to say, for a car with so many imperfections, the Vantage is certainly one with a personality that gets under your skin. I think that is perhaps the key to "memorable" cars - they need to have foibles for them to be so memorable. My old Boxster S was a very, very competent car in almost every way - and completely forgettable.

2 for me,

XJS when i was 19 or 20 at a time when all my friends were driving old escorts or fiesta's, ( No cheap financing on new cars 25 yrs ago). Always got pulled over by the plod and given a producer, details always check as they did not believe it was mine / insured (Insurance was A LOT cheaper then the 205GTI I'd had before it)

1964 Buick Le Sabre, Bouught to replace a 1956 chevy and on a bit of a whim, the chevy was full on custom, Fast and noisy, the Buick was 100 Standard, Rolly polly suspension not fast, but the most relaxing and comfortable car i have ever driven, I would choose it to drive over distance more than any other car

One of my favourite cars that I owned was a late Renault 5 1.4 Prima. Probably the most back to basics car I've ever owned and extremely fun. I think as it was a daily car that cost me £650 back in 2006 there was a element of carefree-ness to it, enhanced by the heavy steering, responsive carburettor engine and lack of weight (car not me! haha).

As for the best car I've owned, I'd have to say my CLS63 AMG. It's hugely comfortable but the power is addictive and the noise is fantastic.

Alittle' shocking...

Citroen Xsara Picasso.

Bought it for pennies, drove it to Europe. Marvelled at its practically and rue selling it for a Subaru.

I had been considering a 200SX for a project - never realised they suffered issues. Rare for a Japanese car to hear of such probs.
They aren't that bad in reality but the youngest ones are still over 15 years old!

Mine has 128k on the clocks and the only real issue is rust. The engine is solid. But at the same time, a friend has an S15 that's had to be rebuilt twice and currently hadn't moved in about a year.

Only downside is that with so many having been tuned, blown up, crashed etc, some OEM parts are hard to get and some things you rely on people breaking them for parts.

Datsun 260Z that I had in the eighties...Superb fun and a decent sports car for not a lot of cash

Alfetta GTV 2.0 ...actually had 2, the best being a 1983 plastic bumper facelift car. Totally impractical boot arrangement, but such a great chassis and engine.

Citroen Dyane...memorable for the huge mileages covered on a road trip over Europe and Turkey.

Lotus Evora S, MY2012. Cornered like a housefly, but with a very supple ride. Went like a stabbed rat. Every drive was an occasion.

I have owned around 50 cars in the past 20 years. The only car that TRULY stands out to me was my 1983 Porsche 944 that I owned from 96-98. Utterly reliable, cost a small fortune to run, always had an oil leak from somewhere but was an absolute blast to drive and a lot of memories were made in that car.

Best was by far the mint Supra turbo aerotop I bought my Mrs for her birthday. Pace, comfort and reliability and a mind blowing top quality stereo system. Most memorable was an Impreza, it had none of the aforementioned, detestable POS. I actually used to walk past it to get to the 1.0 3 pot Corsa in a morning.

2 different cars for different reasons. First was my 1st Honda CRX 16v 1.6. Lived in Wolverhampton and bought it without seeing it from a dealer in Boston, Lincs with 52k on the clock. It was immaculate and the first proper handling car I drove. I went and did everything in that car. Ended up buying two more later including a Vtec.
2nd was my Disco 300Tdi. Emigrated for 6 months to Almeria in Spain, towing a caravan down through the Pyrenees. Joined an off road club just outside Mojacar, got an great photo on a dry river bed on New Years day wearing shorts and a vest!
Drove back to the UK, 1500 miles in two days towing the 'van. Stepped out totally unfazed and could have got back in and drove back!

1972 VW bay window camper. That I stripped to a shell, sandblasted and built up from nothing back to one of the finest campers in the country. I used it properly for a good 10/12 years, camping all year round- surfing, cycling, hiking, caving trips and generally getting drunk in, partying in and persuading numerous young ladies to spend the night in the back of it. Happy days.

sod the VW show scene and sitting in a field, livin' the dream with stupid "lay" flowers hanging from yr rear view mirror.

should have kept it for good, the way prices have gone on these things and sold it to some idiot for £30k. Jeez, I remember buying full running vans for £100 just to break for parts.

Still I replaced it with a lovely (much warmer) diesel T4 camper and still had lots more fun.

We bought one as a cheap stop gap when my wifes car unexpectedly packed in. Both fell in love with it and wish we still had it.

My 1991 1.6 205GTi was my most memorable car. It was everything that everyone says they are but I think what makes it most memorable is that I was 19 and therefor had zero sense of self preservation so drove everywhere like I'd just robbed a bank.

Passing an artic on a dual carriageway by going down a slip road, through a roundabout and up the other slip road back onto the carriageway is one particular event friends still bring up.

My current, a 325ti. Is it mega quick? No, a 2.0TDI will give it a good scaring, but the noise, reliability and the memories of the 25k I've done in it the year I've had it are excellent. The best way to drive around country lanes during summer is rear pop out windows and sunroof open.
I've had quicker, more comfortable, more raw/exciting/louder, and arguably better looking cars, but my old 325ti is still probably the best car I've ever owned

When I was 22 I finally quenched my thirst for an Audi estate - namely a bottom-of-the-barrel B5 A4 1.8T (FWD). Over the two years I owned it I painted it about 8 times (using a roller or tinnies), spent an obscene amount on engine, interior and suspension modifications, and eventually broke it. But the memories, and the smiles per miles were off the chart.

In my favorite guise:

For me it was my S14a 200sx, it wasn't the quickest or most expensive car I've ever had, but it's the one I miss the most and the most fun of all the cars I've had.

Spent nine months in Brazil when our younger son was born (my wife's Brazilian) and bought one of these. 1.6 litres enough to hold 120km/h comfortably on the motorway fully loaded up, supple suspension round town, no problems. Really liked it...sold to a friend in Sao Paulo where I hear it's still going strong.

Best driver's car I've had must be the Lotus Elise 111s but those associated with the best drives have the fondest place in my heart so probably my first car, an Escort 1.6GL. Drove to Nice, a month there in the summer studying then down to Barcelona for a week and back to UK plus it was my car when at University

Got to be my Mk2 CRX. Was glorious coming from a 55bhp Corsa (my first car) and admittedly it was around the time Fast & Furious was about... so mine was bodykitted up with big wheels and a respray!

I wouldn't drive it now, but at the time I was always getting people stopping to photograph it and even got interviewed for a magazine feature! Shame I span it on a wet roundabout and it was just never the same again even after extensive repairs frown
