Not one, not two, not three, but four brand-new Ford RS200s. All gorgeous, especially the red one. More than 80,000 road miles in four years. Sigh .....
What ?? How did this happen ? Did you work for ford ?
Not 'for', but 'with'. And yes, they really were my daily drivers, though there was also an Escort RS Turbo in the garage which my wife used all the time.

My 200SX that I had when I was 22, I had no money, spunked everything I had on buying it/fixing it/modifying it and running it then lost a fortune when I sold it rofl

I loved it though, it almost killed me a lot but I remember the good times over all the very bad (and expensive) times!
Always liked those, they do appear to be rather troublesome.
I had 2 engines, 3 turbos, 2 gearboxes + all the mods. I probably spent 10k on it and sold it for 4k hehe
I still own mine (4 years last december, 24 now!) And whilst I haven't lunched any engines, boxes or turbos. It's a constant stream of maintenance hehe

Currently looking to tidy up rust and paint to sell it on. but mine didn't cost 10k hehe Was £3750 or so 4 years ago, if I get paint and that tidied up I'll probably manage to punt it for 4-5k.
I considered another a few years ago but the prices have just gone up and up, couldn't justify it!

Black/Cream with Advan 3 spokes rocked my world.

They are a nice looking car, and look quite modern.
All the owners seem to come out the woodwork on these threads hehe I'm looking to sell mine this year. Been 4 fun years but fancy something a bit more usable. Gone too far with it.

1987 Peugeot 205 XS in metallic gunmetal grey.

I couldn't afford to buy and insure a GTI aged 20 so this was the next best thing. Bought it with over 100K on the clock and added a lot more mostly trouble-free miles. Not a rocket but the handling was great and 205s look great from any angle. I generously gave it to my girlfriend of the time when I bought a Mk1 Golf Cabrio to replace it. Wish I hadn't.

Fond memories of both.

Next best was a 2002 Audi A4 3.0 V6 quattro Sport. Again not overly quick but felt so right. I only owned it for 9 months then sold it when a very well cherished 2002 D2 S8 came up for sale locally. Despite being the better car on paper it didn't get under my skin the way the A4 did. The owner of the garage who services our cars snapped my hand off for the A4, had it for a few years but rarely used it. My brother now owns it.

Citroen Xsara Picasso.

Bought it for pennies, drove it to Europe. Marvelled at its practically and rue selling it for a Subaru.
Sometimes the memories of where you took the car, or what was going on in your life at the time, can make a cheap reliable motor one of your favourites!

Yep, no class, no pretentious. Leave it anywhere, drive across a muddy field to a campsite, etc etc. For that reason I've added a Berlingo to my garage.

Another who regrettably sold their 200SX. Did cost a fortune from the moment I bought it though; two days after picking it up, the alternator went and Nissan quoted over £500 for a new one, which was a bit of an eye-opener. Still absolutely hilarious fun though.

Sold it to a friend, then went out and bought an Alfa Romeo GTV Cup...which I wish I'd kept hold of too. The car I sold to fund the SX, a VR6 Highline, I wish I still had too. Essentially, in an ideal world, I'd be a Jay Leno type...just with a stter/ cheaper selection of cars laugh

The TVR Tuscan Convertible that I currently own is my best/most memorable and favorite to date but I have a feeling that when the Cerbera that I bought last year is on the road, then my mind may be changed.

That does look nice - had an early press car for a weekend - suitably impressed with it. Like the looks of the later one like yours better though

At 24 i'd had a mini 850, an Astra mk2 and a mk1 Golf GTI. What could I get next...

A '72 Chevelle convertible. It was both rubbish and brilliant.

The DC2 was an eye opener in 1998, it was as quick as most things and was so grippy, and just bloody good fun. Loved that car. Of everything that followed the Caterham was the first recalibration of what a car can do and the Atom is a further step towards madness. The NSX was most memorable for being submerged, the fear I had seeing the engine compartment full of steam haunted me for a while!!

But I'll always have a soft spot for the DC2, even though it was of the moment and driving one since left me a bit cold.

I am looking at a photo that I took many years ago of your red RS200.
The Benson & Hedges Concours at Beamish Museum - where you were on "microphone duty" providing commentary.
I don't normally like red cars, but it suited the RS - pity they weren't all painted that colour!
Or am I thinking of the wrong person?

It's a good looking conversion, quite a rare skill to pull off.

Yes, I was on microphone duty that day. At the end of the day, by the way, I did Beamish to home in deepest Dorset, non stop except for, as I recall, two fuel stops, for the one Bad News about those cars was that they did about 18mpg ....
