I have only had a couple of cars where it gives you MPG on a screen, current cars have not got it and doesn't bother me that much to find out. The family car has a readout but I don't bother reading that either, just put petrol in when it's needed.

Have no interest and never will.

Light comes on, put petrol in.

You don't eat a roast dinner and then work out how little movement you can do to make the calories last longer do you?

My car does about 200 miles to the tank so I try not to think about it, probably 15mpg or so frown

CLS 500, not much, it tells me it averages 20 mpg but I think that works in a similar way to me when my missus says "How many beers have you had ?".

I dont do that many miles, it is about quality not quantity and in reality it doesnt cost that much, chap I know always regails me of his 45 mpg plus 2 litre diesel Audis, he is on about his 10th as he changes them every couple of years, generally buys at a year old and then sells them when they are getting to 50k as they will obviously be fked by then biggrin I reckon he pays 20k, then part exes for 10 or not much two years later, then marvels that I pay £500 VED and low mpg and how I should get a diesel, hmm, wonder who spends more money overall, wonder who drives a more enjoyable car ?

biggrin It's tricky to compare bodies to cars. You worry about throwing diesel into a petrol car. But you don't worry about throwing a kebab after 10 pints into a human body. biggrin

Only the vaguest interest. I check the Evoque gets c400 miles on a tank of diesel (9 times out of 10 to be fair to it) and once the TVR gets close to 1/4 of a tank it gets filled up.

TVR can require filling twice a day if out with it's mates hehe

It gets filled when it's empty, then I just drive it as normal. I'm not going to drive like a mary so it's not worth wasting time thinking about.

I used to calculate it every tank, especially when I went from a 1.2 to a 1.8 turbo. The mpg has just depressed me, started off getting 31mpg, not bad. Now getting more mid 20s but doing loads of short journeys and driving to enjoy my car, not stress over a few pounds worth of fuel.

Life really is too short

I'm even considering buying one of my child hood dream cars, Subaru impreza. I assume i would be getting 20 at best.

I find range more important that MPG, as i hate the hassle of filling up!
Im currently in the US and my hire car is only averaging 18MPG, yet it has a proper sized fuel tank so goes further than any uk car ive ever had!

Despite the "terrible mpg" as I do barely any miles I fill up now about once a month.

I really did get sick of it when I was commuting by bike though, it had enough range for 1.5-2 days commuting! What's worse is that my bank once did (as a one off, I can't remember why) a yearly summary listing things like where I'd spent the most etc. My biggest spends (by far) were paypal/ebay and two petrol stations!

I calculate it every time I brim the tank, but not because I'm bothered about extracting the best economy. I'm just looking for changes in economy that could point to a problem, e.g. last year the oxygen sensor started dying which gave a noticeable increase in fuel use.

I occasionally see what the OBC says (best was ~13 mpg on track wink), mostly I don't really worry.

I've a 1.4 hatchback for driving through town traffic to work and back. I check it every time I fill up, so I'd know if something's up.

Low to mid 30s usually.

My C63 tells me, I usually check on a long motorway run (not often), and have a sense of pride if it gets anywhere close to 25mpg :P Usually for my local driving, never check

My VX220, owned for 8 years or so, doesn't tell me, never worked it out. It has to be the more economical out the two I reckon.

I measure it occasionally, but that's mainly for checking to see if its running right.

The display is at around 30 -32 mpg actually working it out its nearer to 26 mpg. (E46 M3)

Car 1: something around 30-35 mpg.
Cars 2, 3 & 4: 20-25ish mpg.

Suits me.

I do around 5k miles a year so a few mpg extra here or there is by the by. My E36 328i averaged about 17mpg, the E46 330Ci is currently around 18-19mpg.

Weekend toys, I don't care (and really don't want to know) what they cost me.
Daily runners, yes, they are chosen for practicality not fun and cost is always a factor in choosing what to buy..
