That how they do it in France, you move over in the lane and the overtake rather than undertake.
Seems unsafe by comparison to the UK; possibly because I've never seen this before... I wouldn't attempt this kind of move here!

The dashcam footage has just been released from an incident in which a young lady lost her life.

I know the stretch of road extremely well, and it is a very wide road, which does lead to many cars daily carrying out similar moves as shown here. One thing that I noticed in the video, is it appears that the Insignia speeds up when the Mondeo overtakes. It wasn't a very clever overtake by the Mondeo, however the Insignia is so far over, almost inviting the overtake, yet they then proceed to speed up.

The Mondeo driver was found guilty of causing death by careless driving and given 12 months inside, after pleading not guilty.
Pretty much the first thing I noticed too.

Agreed, not the cleverest of moves but I think the driver of the Insignia was complicit.
I know that bit of road well, there's blame all round - there's just about room for two cars without even breaching the other carriageway, so there was no need to get so far into the opposing lane.

Sadly the lady coming the other way over-reacted and lost control, easily done I suppose.

The stupid thing about it is that it's another minute to a multi-exit, multi-lane roundabout that the Mondeo could've been clear at, but it's a local hotspot for aggressive driving - you come off many miles of dual carriageway onto a single and inevitably someone wants to do 40-50mph instead of a perfectly safe 60.

It's far too close, and an absolutely piss poor bit of driving. If you think that is acceptable, it's time to sell your car and start taking the bus.
When you've driven in some of the countries I have driven in you'll realise that is the norm and they don't whinge about it either. No one got hurt, get over it!

Would have totally been avoided had the Mondeo not given a ridiculous car width worth of a gap from the Insignia. Really not necessary on a road like that.
Maybe something had being 'going on' before they overtook the truck. It would explain the wide berth given to the Insignia and maybe why it sped up !

Had the Focus just finished an overtaking maneuver itself maybe ?

I looks like its a long way out in the road and swerves in at the last second.

If it had clear vision all the time, wouldn't it have moved over earlier as it became obvious what the Mondeo was doing.

My first thought - the Focus has just overtaken as well and surely should bear some of the responsibility.

As said already, the camera lens makes the overtake look much closer than it would be in real life.
Not really. Pause the video and you'll see that the van is almost entirely within the same lane as the cyclist. That's nowhere near enough room at 20 mph, let alone 50.

Reading comments all the drivers in the video just got a warning furious

Same as the selfish school moms that park where they like because they are just selfish and lazy, including parking on the school zone markings.

I pass a school during the week and they have to stick bollards in the road to stop the moms parking outside the front and this is in a school in a nice really nice area where you'd expect people would behave better, just goes to show that everyone nowadays just don't give a crap about anyone else except themselves furious

reading the responses on twitter from the MPS apparently they got away with just a warning and a thread to prosecute if that happens again, ridiculous lenience

edit: just saw burnzyb above me pointed that out lol

Know exactly what you mean.

Lancaster boys gramma school has double yellows and school zone markings yet parents park on them to pick up their precious children and sod the rest.

Yet, despite challenges, the school won't take action and neither will the local council enforcement. Probably waiting for someone to get run over frown

On a side note, I don't think horses should be on the road in many circumstances, but finding some sort of solution to this is difficult.
It's quite often a topic of debate on our local F/B page, horsey types get very defensive about it. They say their animals are skittish and car drivers should give them plenty of room (On which I agree), but then when I ask them why put a skittish, and usually expensive, animal into a position where it could be startled their only answer seems to be "Because we can and it's legal"
Yeah this is what I'm on about. I startled a horse once, didn't purposefully mean to provoke it or accelerate past in a yobbish manner. It's a very large, very heavy unpredictable animal at the end of the day, doesn't usually end well for the ride if it goes off on one.

My horse loving friends say they try to limit the time spent on a road, but sometimes it's just to get to the next bridle path, especially from their stables.

You know what, I am fed up !

I travel a fair bit in areas I dont know.

I sometimes end up in the wrong lane !!!!!!!

IT HAPPENS !!!!

If someone indicates they need to change lane a bit later than you, perhaps they are new to the area.

Give them a break !

If they have not dangerously cut you up, why not just shrug your shoulders.

You dont need to flash, sound your horn, shout expletives etc.

People make mistakes !

I need to stop watching these daschcam clips for a bit !

worst mistake you can ever make in a car is to indicate to let someone know you want to change lane, the knobber will just accelerate to block you
