We are all entitled to our own opinion but I've just passed 6.5k miles in a 2016 M3. My other car is an i3 which must surely be one of the least dated cars about and I have to say that in comparison the M3 is light years ahead in quality, feel and undatedness (well, you know what I mean).

I can't comment on the pre LCI cars but having clocked up most of those miles in damp and greasy conditions I don't find it in the least twitchy. Clearly with well north of 400HP and rear drive you can't stamp on the accelerator but driven with the respect that it deserves it is far from twitchy.

I've recently had a number of Elises, a series one Exige and most recently a 928. None of which had traction control, so perhaps I'm a little better at tempering my right foot than if I'd just jumped out of something a little more forgiving.

Just my two pennies worth.

A friend had an I3 for a weekend recently as they were trying to sell him one, I have to say we couldn't stop giggling, repetitively giving it some beans from 0 - 50, really took us both by surprise how well it got of the line, we were like a pair of kids smile
If I didn't commute quiet as far I'd seriously consider one (also impressed us how quiet it was with the range extender running!).

I couldn't agree with you more. I want to be able to mash the throttle in any gear, any weather and with any amount of lock on without getting caught out. Throttle modulation is for old gits. It's all about the point and squirt in 2017!

Just a pity then that it looks so awful...

Granted its certainly no oil painting, but it was surprisingly impressive for such an odd looking beast smile

LED headlights front and rear? Now theres a novelty hehe
It's one thing that really grates with BMW. They've used LED's since 2003 on their cars, yet every new model features halogen bulbs (on the whole) for the launch model and then BMW add LED's for the LCI models. I know it's all marketing bks, but really.
It's the one thing that annoys me about my X3, a 2016 car with a £40k+ list price and it has halogen lights, including the DRLs, as standard. Not good enough BMW!

It is a long overdue improvement, Mercedes, VW and Audi lights have looked much better than the dated designs from BMW for a while

Dullest interior ever, have BMW changed the instrument cluster in the past 20 years?

Interiors are BMW'S weakest link sadly, they fall behind their rivals by some margin in that regard.

Yes, I can't disagree with that. Don't think it's too bad from the front but the back looks pants. On the plus side, I don't normally have to look at the back.

Even after a couple of years, the giggle you get from the acceleration never wears off.
We've got the RX version and Euro jaunts aside the range has never been an issue, we've done a couple of hundred miles using electric and RX.
Mrs928 does a 80 mile round commute everyday (she can plug in at work for free). I'd have another without hesitation.

From a bling pov yes I agree. The materials can be a pit poor too compared to the competition. On the other hand, the ergonomics are still superior to the competition (the seat tilt function is brilliant in particular). Those classic dials in particular why change for the sake of change ?
I don't mind a bit of cost cutting if it helps retain the rwd layout with the engine as far back as possible compared to the overhanging front drive based Audi equivalent. But each to their own.

I agree that you don't buy a bmw for its interior but for the way it drives, it's a shame that they don't put more effort into their interiors for me though.

Every time I see an M4, I'm disappointed by how enormous they look. Sinewy backroads best avoided frown

Another pointless refresh really. I can't really even tell the difference with the new front and rear lights. It just looks like a bigger M2 now. Not a bad thing i suppose but not exactly mind-blowing either. Not that i expected too much anyway.

I like the M4 though. I think i prefer the M3 though after seeing them in the flesh. I'm a big fan of coupes but the 5-door saloon version just seems to look more muscular and aggressive.

Would much rather have a twitchy rear end than boring AWD understeer. Bit of excitement on the daily commute.
