RE: Mazda MX-5 RF: Driven
Discussion
Stop pissing about Mazda, give it 300bhp, stiffen it, do it properly, go all out.
I say this as someone with 2, someone who keeps hoping they will make the car we keep wondering about...
You have the ingredients spot on, for they keep selling, but make a proper quick one, I suspect you could sell st loads!

Honestly considering the NC shares its platform with the RX8 I'm amazed they didnt just drop the renesis into some of them as a special. I love my NC but it would be a lot better with the 230bhp rotary

I thought it was compulsory to take the NC straight to somewhere like Wheels in Motion for one of the aftermarket suspension kits and an alignment?
I did this with my mk3 with the Mazda official lower springs. Whilst it made a big difference to the handling (positive) and the looks (also positive) it was just too low for our terrible roads and speed bump infested London. I lost count the number of times it scraped the tarmac - once or twice just on a very fast but bumpy B road. edwheels said:

We're running out of oil. If they put that engine in something that sells in the volumes of the MX5 it'll al be gone by October.
You think it would drink more than your R8 ffs.RobDickinson said:
really? the amount of engine oil the rx8/renesis uses is minuscule compared to the worlds use in general.
I only run one for tens of thousands of miles but I guess you have more experience hey...
It was an attempt at humour due to the oil consumption issues that effected many RX8'sI only run one for tens of thousands of miles but I guess you have more experience hey...
Now it seems I touched a nerve, sorry if I upset you my little snowflake.
Chill dude.
I love it, having had both a MK1 and a MK2 I have the MK4 at the top of my next car list.
To me the RF is even better, I always had hard tops on my MX-5s for the winter so the RF solves the storage issue and the PITA of taking the hard top on and off.
I really like the styling so I now have my ideal spec, MX-5 RF 2.0 in Black Mica with a Stone Leather interior.
Will be looking to arrange a test drive in the summer.

Not much humour around for people carrying on spreading bullst about rotaries sorry. expect better from ph.
Just stick RX8 oil consumption into Google, you will find 100's of owners discussing it.I had a TVR, it never had issues so all the stories I read about TVR's and their reliability are therefore all wrong.
Opinion does not outweigh facts Mr Angry.
Your ownership experience is a sample of 1, as is my TVR.
Grow up. You're coming across as a petulant fanboy.
I like that they are doing something a bit different. Adventurous even you could say, for a mainstream company (that the world has come to this...)
Bit disappointed with the rear buttresses though. a full glass rear and maybe even a slight notch-back a la Toyota S800 or Lancia Appia Zagato could have made it rather more interesting.
That said, I'm sure it will sell reasonable well, and give rise to a bloodline of cars which will slowly become more and more watered down and conventional.
