Pays yer money. I work in air con and wouldnt advise using that type of outfit. Funny peoples stories of coolant and exploding condensers. Condenser do rot out , which should have been picked up by Kwik fit .Oh, the didnt ? Any monkey can buy an aircon machine and 'plug it in' but without experience and understanding of the system and its foibles, bit like taking your Ferrari to Halfords and fit a Halfords oil filter and 'some oil'. Find a reputed place , get it fixed properly and think of the world around us, as all they do is vacuum the system , unit says no leak after holding the vacuum ( not 100% way of testing) and recharge with 'refrigerant'. Refrigerant leaks can be awkward and for them, their costs are about a fiver for the refrigerant and a smidge of dye. So a good money spin with a low fix rate is a win, other than the loose, which is your time and the enviroment.
Yeah, the last time i went to a 'proper' air con place the only lubricant was needed was that on my butt after I got royally shafted !

Kiwk fit are fine to use ime

A fast fit chain entered the wrong car details into the machine. Tried to put twice the amount of fluid in that was required - popped the condenser.

Got a refund for the regas, but not for the £150 i had to spend on a new condenser. Went in fully working, came out knackered, i just thought for £30 i would see if i could get it even colder!
Same here. Nothing was wrong with my AC either, such a kick in the crotch.

I'm sure the same could be said of "proper" places, there will be stories of them damaging systems too.

Took the car this morning and they fixed the issue. They mentioned the car was very low on refrigerant.

Going to see how it pans out over the next few months.

Peace at last!

I've used them about 3 times for 3 different cars.

Ford Focus - worked fine
Merecedes E320 - worked fine
Toyota Auris - worked fine for a few days then stopped. They gave me a free regas and checked for a leak but couldn't find anything. Couldn't be bothered going back for a refund .

IME most places charge £40-£50. The advantage with KF is that if it doesn't work it's free.

Yes but you're wasting your time doing it by the book vac it out if it holds vacuum bit of dye and oil and bung in some gas take the money its a race to the bottom , we will have to see what happens when 134a is gone , the people who sold the machines helped draft the F gas rule on mobile systems , if it been about the environment there would have been a fixed cost like going for an MOT so if it might have had a leak it would have been rejected properly tested and repaired if the customer wanted , not as now where its not going to make you money if you find a leak !!!
