I always yearned for a GT6 but remembered its Herald heritage and cooled to it, sadly. Two Heralds in my car owning history were bloody awful. Flimsy, rust-prone, lousy handling, and crudely put together. I know the later Spitfires and the GT6 were far better but they were still Herald based.

The RCZ roofline and rear window are beautiful:-

Just a shame about the rest of the car really smile
I don't mind the rest of the car, save for the corporate nose, but the roof and boot section are really cool.

TVR Tuscan and T350 also have a lovely appearance.

Can't put my finger on it but I prefer the RS4 to the RS6, just seems so well proportioned with the nice swooping roof line. Also practicality innit.

Better lines for an estate ?, above looks a little to short and "stubby" ?

Totally agree, but then again there is so much about the series 1 that is perfect that it's hard to pick out one feature.

I would nominate this as a good second place. My lottery win, the Iso Grifo.

It's a bit Marmite but it's one of the reasons I bought a CLS in the first place...

I would agree, I had forgotten about this but a mate of mine pointed it out to me,

They are Marmite like you say, as so many ugly/melted Banana comments attest, still think they are a looker, though the 218 was a disappointment I have come to like them a bit more, 218 CLS 63 seems good value at 30k now.

So practical it needs a roof box on its elegant beautiful roofline biggrin:

Alternative view would be that some one put a conservatory on the back of a TR7 hehe

Totally agree with you on this. Brilliant looking car - a design classic in my book.
Same for me, I love mine.

I think the Marmite aspect of it is part of the appeal for me. That said I still love (and own) a Megane II which was very divisive in it's looks but I love (in RS guise). Not saying the Megane is pretty but it still stands out as a design.

Don't get me wrong the 218 CLS is a decent looking car and as you say the AMG versions become bargains fairly quickly. I just don't feel it is quiet as special for some reason. That's not me being biased as an owner but the first CLS always stood out as something a bit different.

5 pages and no XJR13?

Having said that, the Jag is more of a boot/bonnet line than a roofline.

So how about a Mulliner-bodied S1 Continental?

The Alfa SZ ES30 has an elegant roofline, very delicate compared to the rest of the design, highlighted by the RZ which without the roof looks awful to my eyes.

The original SZ from the 60s also has a beautiful roof line, not dissimilar to the Porsche 356;

But my all time favourite has to be the Alfa 8C 2900 Lungo, stunning!

To my eyes that looks like it's been in a terrible accident! hehe
