I really hate the styling. Those additional lights on the front look stupid. Hopefully it looks better in showroom spec. But not encouraged by the styling, as I'd by a sports car on the strength of it's styling on equal merits to how it drives.
Those lights are a key part of the styling going back to the roots of bAlpine. Are you familiar with the A110?Wills2 said:

Price is about right for the performance compared to Alfa 4c, Cayman and Elise
a 300hp 718 start at 40k, if this car starts at 50k then to me that's not cheap. Alpine are quoting figures similar to the 4c. A £50k 718s is still a bit slower
So as I said price wise its on par and the spec looks pretty good, you would need to spend a hew extra ££ on the Porsche to match the bucket seats, leather consoles etc

To be fair, the A110 wasn't at the roots of Alpine. The 106 and the 108 didn't have auxilliary lights, and neither did the early 110'sblueg33 said:
Fair enough, but the A110 is the Iconic Alpine, the car that made the name, and had all the nice detail touches, I especially like the chromed intake grills on the rear quarters
That is certainly beyond argument. Just glad the new one is a bit bigger than the original... On pricing which a number of people are commenting on, the message from Alpine via all the UK car media outlets pre-Brexit (and the subsequent fall in sterling) was £40k for the base version, £50k for a higher performance version that will follow at a later stage
The price has subsequently been announced in Euros for the launch edition (1,955 'highly specified' cars) at 55-60,000 euros. At current exchange rates, that's around £50k but they may well price the car in the UK a little lower and of course, this is the launch edition which will have more as standard than the base version which will be cheaper. We may therefore still see the base (non-launch) car coming out at close to £40k in the UK
The higher performance version is not the same car as the launch edition. We have no real details on when the higher performance version may come
The pricing does not seem to be posing a problem for sales as in all LHD markets, it's sold out (with refundable 2,000 euro deposits) and all that is left for sale of the launch edition is 240 or so cars for RHD markets, perhaps unsurprisingly, as RHD launch cars aren't being delivered until a good few months after the LHD launch cars
Personally, whilst I love manuals, I already have a manual sports car which I'm looking to add to so I'm not so bothered about this one being flappy paddle.
My main hope is that they make this car fun to drive and that the Renault Sport 'magic' is sprinkled over this car. We know what they can do with cars like the Clio & Megane, so it hopefully doesn't seem too ambitious to hope that with a dedicated sports car, they really can deliver the goods. There's obviously no guarantee of that of course !
Some really good shots of the interior and exterior of the Vision concept in this vid. Other than minor details like mirrors and wheels, the camouflaged cars look pretty much spot on. If they keep the bulk of the concept's interior, that will be fantastic. The only angle I'm not sold on is the rear

The Alpine has a twin clutch paddleshift
But its not a manual , which a lot of people still want .Having recently switched to a paddleshift, with many doubts about it, I think I becoming a convert. Short test drives are no good, you need to live with the car. Yes it takes away an element of driving skill, but it allows you hone other skills.
I was given a Golf GTI with DSG over the festive period, I didn't know it was DSG until I got in the car, I was initially disappinted.
After a few days though I got the hang of using it, downshifting gave a nice throaty blip, it was fluent and reasonably quick. It was that good I was tempted to buy it from the owner as a family run around (it was up for sale).
I'm not a convert though, I still love driving with a manual box and find it much more entertaining. I too like having a clutch, especially for a bit of tail out fun. For me a true sportscar should have a manual option. This comes under the sportscar category.
I'll take the Fulvia Zagato behind the A110 instead

Yes I'm familiar with the A110. However just because it was on the original doesn't mean it has to be on the new model. In any case at £50k it's out of my price range anyway so it's academic. 🤷🏼♂️
