Rowan Atkinson on "Oxford's insane transport policy" and refers to a blanket ban on cars in the City Centre.

Big Wows.

In reality, it's a few streets. It's been the same for years. Everyone who lives there copes perfectly well; it's a small city with a compact centre. I can drive and park perfectly well in a street that within a five minute walk will have me in the city centre. And that is a city centre that as I said was laid out in medieval times, not specifically for Macca F1 driving comedians.

But Rowan doesn't like it, he doesn't even live in the city (I know where he lives btw). And you live in South East London, so excuse me if I don't give it much credence.

The linked item was (according to its title) published around 2003; Rowan Atkinson lived at Waterperry at that time, and his local city was Oxford. Convesrsely (in terms of comparative sizes and taking things to extremes), I am more than qualified to comment on congestion and lunatic-traffic-calming-schemes in Bury, for example, although I live in Bolton wink .

Edinburgh is pretty awful, the city council hates cars and seems to do everything they can to make driving difficult there.

Don't leave the ring road is my only advice, just stay on the M8.
Yeah agreed there.

Requires too much lane changing where one moment you need to be on the far left and in the next 20ft you are needed to go all the way right across 3 lanes to get to your single lane exit
