Door keypad - what does this do?

Has anyone seen one of these before? There's one on the opening edge of each of the external doors which are all aluminium.

Is it an alarm or a digital lock or something else?

+1! I've tried searching google for similar images and googling it, door brands beginning with M, etc!

I don't know what that "spine" part of the door is called, but it looks like the buttons are not accessible when the door is closed, which is odd...

I would hazard a guess at some alarm system that security guards could switch on / off
