Talking to a salesman in a Toyota garage earlier today, they had a set of alloys nicked off of a brand new hilux over the weekend. It was supposed to be collected by its new owner today.

They smashed the window to get the wheel nut key too.

This was in Herefordshire, not a place known for crime.

I take it that nobody on the RRS manufacturing design team ever had a Saxo VTR/S then?
Clearly not. Back in the day there was an aftermarket locking kit for Peugeot cars, because it was far too easy to hacksaw through the single bolt that held the cradle up and drop the wheel out. They even had a little bumper sticker to say it was done.

Someone on the RRS forum has made a security device to cover the spare wheel. I think it's a metal disc that locks or something.

So you think all these are nicked? The vag car owners I know generally spend a fortune getting these wheels to fit and refurbished
A set of Bentley wheels are rarely over £800 from ebay. Porsche split rims much more but they're still worth that when sold on afterwards too. So if you think about it they are free.
And where do you think a lot of those sets of wheels on ebay are from frown
Scrotes know how valuable some of them are, how difficult to trace, and how quick a return they can make.

Back in the mists of time when I actually arsed about modifying cars (peak max power era) I had some nicked, all thanks to some fkers with a £10 gator grip or similar.

I vaguely remember reading about Bernie Ecclestone having a couple of sets lifted when parked on the street too.

I live just outside hereford and have heard some stories about one particular area of town regally having parts taken, from wheels, bumpers to even the side skirts if left over night.

I think Ecclestone had one of the first CL63s in the country and his wheels got nicked.

Desirable wheels will always be in danger of being nicked. Scabby old alloys are a pretty safe bet.
There is another thread on GG today discussing the merits of nice looking steelies. At ~£50/wheel you can't really go wrong biggrin. Cheaper high profile tyre sizes involved too.

There was an Audi propped up on bricks and bits of wood in the station car park at Princes Risbrough the other week.

Belmont by any chance?

I too live outside hereford, near Leominster. A lot of scumbags around Leominster town but I rarely hear of cars being damaged/bits nicked.

One of my bosses has the left side wheels stolen of a newish CLS a year ago or so. Parked in a North London Street.

Wasn't so annoyed about the wheels but they used a single upturned brick to support the car which of course buckled the sill.

Like the Fiat and Fiesta above its they way the damage more than sum of stolen parts that really grates

Yes, although I used to leave mine slammed in access mode to make it more difficult to get the required access
You wonder why JLR never bothered to make it standard - very poor

Is this another "Never venture south of the river Wye" story? :P
I'm also pretty local to Hereford and went to sixth form there, it has a few interesting characters and places to say the least.

I always thought it was alright around there. Just goes to show, looks can be deceiving!

Funnily enough I used to live in Kington. My parents still do. Small world!beer

I saw an A1 in Bradford, just off Leeds road near my old office on bricks, minus its wheels about a year ago. First and only time I've ever seen it.

It's been a while since I've seen a car in bricks or indeed heard of anyone getting theirs stolen.

I've just got some pretty desirable 21" wheels on my car today and was wondering whether it was worth putting a second set of locking wheel nuts on there?
Are you planning on going to Liverpool?
nono The 2008 capital of culture is a paragon of social peace and your wheels are as safe as Salford houses.

I had two BMW 16" Turbines stolen out of the garden, had them as winter spares, really pissed me off that did as they are basically worthless as they only fit on an E39, but now I'm left with two random wheels I can't use.
