When I was a little younger, myself and a few friends had all gotten our first 125cc motorbikes.

Heading towards Bridgnorth and the guy in front of me was on an Aprilia RS125 going ~90mph.

A bird of some description flew from a hedge at the perfect time for my friend to headbutt it at 90mph hehe
I once hit a rabbit two up on my RS125, mid corner at about 80mph. I saw it run out at the last minute so had no time to do anything except brace. It managed to run between the wheels so only the back wheel bumped over it, the bike just carried on like nothing had happened, not even a wobble!

The other day a Pheasant had plenty of time to see me coming, I was doing less than 30mph along a straight stretch of road, yet it still chose to fly out right in front of me from the safety of the grass verge, I didn't hit it, it just managed to skim over the bonnet and windscreen without making contact.... the stupid F****r then turned around in mid air, flew fast enough to overtake me then proceeded to land on the road right in front of me again!

And to think people consider it to be some kind of ''sporting challenge'' to shoot these brain dead birds which clearly have some kind of death wish.
I was less fortunate with a pheasant...and the pheasant was definitely less fortunate. Result of Range Rover meets pheasant on the A30. I'd add that my wife's scream when she got out at the next service station to see what the damage was, was probably heard throughout Cornwall.

I've hit a deer
That makes a mess
Luckily it didn't come up the bonnet and through the screen, that can often be fatal.

Definitely need to man up, but yeah, just cannot help but feel a bit st about it really.
I know exactly how you feel, I hit and killed a fox a few years back and felt very sad about it, kept thinking about the possible cubs waiting for their mothers return etc.

I did do my very best to avoid it when it ran out, but just as I thought I was going to pass behind it the stupid thing turned around and started running back frown

I was just going to say that biggrin

I've had moose hair on the car from a close encounter with one, just brushed it, he just walked on.... You WILL swerve for a moose, I guarantee that, they are huge.

Clipped a deer in my youth with my dads Audi at 120 mph, that made a right mess of the car and that poor animal.

Hitting an animal alway makes me a bit sad if I'm honest.

It's just a fox, a pest. I wouldn't worry
they are not, they are a important part of the countryside eco system. they are viewed as pests, same as badgers by people that don't understand how ecosystems work.
The local ranger on the estate beside us shot 300+ last year alone.

This is to protect the Pheasants for the shooting season which brings in a lot of dosh.

We are now overrun with thousands of Rabbits. Poor cat can't keep up biggrin

Exactly - if they didn't have a cute face no one would care.

I'd probably consider the person who failed to get an adequate coop the bd, I've never seen a fox pick a lock wink

PH poster in admission of conscience shocker!!! Good on you OP. Needlessly killing something (even by accident) shouldn't make you feel good.. unless you're one of the backward thinking countryside alliance types.

you can't keep chickens in a coop all day, free range chickens need precisely that.

True, did the person who specced the coop also spec the fence?

I scooped-up a badger quite neatly into the nose of an MR2 a few years back. Thinking it was still on the road I braked to check that it was dead... just as it rolled out of the nose of the car before finally, err, bursting under a wheel.

I once had a birdstrike in a Cessna. On landing I found a sparrow that had flown clean through the prop. It must have enjoyed a millisecond of relief before it died of deceleration sickness when it hit the landing light behind.

They are simply the most stupid creatures! When the gamekeepers let out the new brood, they're all over the bloody place. My daughter's dog loves pheasants but when so many are around she just runs about chasing here and there unsure which one to go for. Sorry about the fox OP frown

I wrote off my mint N reg Mini Cooper off avoiding a fox many years ago.
Swerved, clipped the verge, shot me across the road, into a ditch which flipped me into a field.
I got away with a cut on the knee and a bit of a headache.
The fox got away.

I'd try not to swerve in future but sometimes it's just instinct.
