LOL You are now just being silly smile Yes I remember 13" and they still exist on much smaller cars. But relatively the sidewall height isn't that different. My 21" have a higher sidewall than the 18" on my Golf R. That 4WD system can deal with it.

do one to find out what tyre brand they are on

crappy conti's for the most part i will wager
The survey is clearly showing the fault is not linked to any specific tyre manufacturer - reassuringly smile

Owners are reporting their GLC's are running on Continental, Hankook, Michelin, Dunlop, Bridgestone & Yokohama

I'm sure Cyb3rDud3 will post a graphic showing the breakdown

In case anyone still has any doubts regarding the validity and impact of this issues. Just ask yourself why would Mercedes-Benz ask their prospective customers to sign a declaration to acknowledge this 'characteristic' exists.

If you want to see a copy, take a look here;

Err, just a wild guess but perhaps it's to make customers aware that it's a characteristic and not an actual fault that has developed with their car?

smile Naturally, but doesn't it even suggest to you that the fact they have to explain it means that the majority of the people don't see it that way. You may see it as a feature, those that have it definitely don't regard as a welcome undocumented feature. But hey, if you are happy with it, go ahead and sign away smile

I'm glad that I never bought one of these blingy clunkers.

I have owned Mercs in the past and found them great, however, in recent years they seem to be trying too hard to appeal to the kiddie buyers who appreciate style over substance.

Few cars behave well with 21" wheels and elastic band tyres, I dread to think what they feel like to drive over British roads especially with cold/hard rubber.

From experience I can say that it is super comfortable, when going in a straight line. And on my previous vehicle which was the GL class also with 21" wheels it was also comfortable going around corners.

However if you actually read the posts above and looked at the charts provided and supported by verified and registered owners you also see that the 21" option is actually a minority of those who are affected by this. Opinions are just that opinions, the data seem to suggest otherwise wink

The munter is saying it's safety concern. It quite obviously isn't so she shouldn't be able to claim anything on those grounds.

There is a report on one of the forums of a guy who crashed his car into a wall, he reckons due to this issue.

Post reported. Totally uncalled for to use such terms. Don't get why you have to be derogatorive towards another human being. Furthermore it also really shows your lack of experience with such matters as newspapers do their best to get you to pose in a certain way.
And then finally do you seriously belief that tyres shredding away is not a safety issue? Do you actually have one of these cars?

It 100% is. That is my tyre at 4,007 with this issue.

At 2,700 miles it looked like this.

It is only the passenger side tyre that is wearing like that. The others are fine. Mercedes says I take too many right turns. I swear blind that Mr Goodridge from Sytner in Milton Keynes told me that last Friday.

I've got mine booked in with Wheels-in-Motion for this week and will arrange for an independent engineering report as well since Mercedes just keeps ignoring it and saying it is not a safety issue. 3 Months old and I'm at the legal limit with one tyre and my car jumps, skips , Huddersfield and crabs.

Reports and complaints have also been submitted to Vosa.

It's all very well everyone having an opinion about the skipping. Until you've actually paid out > £50 k cash of your hard earned money on these cars and then driven them for an extended period of time you realise just what an issue this skipping is. It's not just slight 4WD crabbing due to low profile tyres and 4wd. It's severe juddering, clonking, crabbing and a virtually un drivable car if it's damp or wet. The cars are appalling.

This is a picture of the so called Munter as you put it. I was asked to look grumpy it wasn't for a beauty pageant but a complaint against Mercedes and yes the picture isn't very flattering but I wasn't asked to look glamorous or happy, so how dare you make rude remarks that my children can see.

Have you actually driven one of these cars as I assume not because you clearly haven't a clue what you are talking about. Hundreds if not thousands of customers are being literally driven around the bend with embarrassment at this so called characteristic and some of us including me have had engineers inspect our cars to be told "no car should do that there's definitely something wrong" so if you think for one minute I enjoyed having to go the press you are wrong but we are all up against it with Mercedes and had no option.

If this is to do with big wheels and skinny tyres, then why does my Ford Focus style estate on 16inch steel wheels suffer the problem every morning when I pull out of my parking space?
