Mega cars but frightening running costs. Makes my previous E63 M6 seem like a Honda Jazz in comparison. Wouldn't touch one without a solid Audi dealer warranty behind it.

Parts are still fine, give it another 5 years and it'll be in the same position as the B5/C5 though I'd guess.

The ‘feel’ issue is a funny one. I have fitted KW adjustable springs and thicker H&R anti-roll bars, and I find the steering quite feelsome, and also very direct. The steering response now belies the size and weight of the thing, and it’s quite fun to hustle along a back road, as long as it’s not too bumpy!

Having also owned the previous shape RS6 too, to me the RS6 is definitely the best all-round, one-car-for-everything car that you can buy, especially if you have kids (I do). Remapped to 750bhp and 1000nm of torque, its laugh outloud fast, and yet sedate and sensible when you need it to be. I will no doubt swap it for a C7 shape at some point, but 2 years in, I’m really happy with mine. Here she is doing Xmas duties in North Yorkshire:

18 months ago I bought a B6 Audi S4 with 100k milex for less than 4k. (1 owner FASH, but no detailed history, sat at a backyard dealer for 6 months) 18k miles later and it hasn't put a foot wrong!
Yes, it uses some petrol but what do you expect?
Wouldn't now what to replace it with! Will probably drive this until it dies. Should it die tomorrow (touch wood) it would have cost me 22p/mile (4k£/18k). So really not too bad allready...

I love the C6 RS6. But I much prefer the smaller B6/7 platform.
Agreed Fillibuster, but I never said it had a million miles on it, which it didn't. Had FSH and ticked all the check boxes.

Glad for you mate but I think you'll be in the minority. Agree though, it was a superb car when it was working. I had the B7. No feel through the steering and a bit heavy in the twisties but an AWD 350bhp V8 estate car what's not to like? My Legacy GTB was also a great car but no V8 rumble.

I think in general people forget that just because it's a £20K car, it comes with the running costs of a £75K car.

If I had £50K to spend on a car, buying one of these for £25K and having a fund to keep it in tip top condition would be appealing. But if you have £25K to spend on a car, if you buy one of these, you're going to be really struggling.

Quite a lot of nonsense being written here, find a decent mechanic and these are not that expensive to fix, OK parts can be expensive, but if aformentioned mechanic has a TPS account then it's not too bad. Cars like these are never going to be cheap to run, however why would anyone buy a 5.0 V10 twin turbo car if running costs are a worry, go buy a crap euro box if that is your main concern. I love mine and it's worth every penny it costs me to run..if your not sure just drive one and floor it in sports mode at 80mph and be stunned at how quickly a family estate can get you into serious licence loosing territory..(and thats without a remap) they are seriously awesome cars biggrin

The trouble is that people don't think (or know) about the running costs in the first place, so hopefully they'll learn from this buyers guide.

My worry for the RS6 is that people who haven't read up on the car will buy a 'cheap' £20k car and expect it to have running costs like an A6 and when the first big bills come around they'll sell it quick for a cheap price and the next sucker who sees how cheap they are to buy does the same thing and eventually the cars are ruined. The C5 version I had suffered from that same issue once the price dropped enough so I've seen it happen before.

Actually it's the most aerodynamic roof box I found tbh - small company in Norway who make them to order. Sit nice and low against the roof too, which looks better I think smile

I agree with Wadeski. I bought a well looked after S6 V10 Avant for £15k 3 years ago. I knew I might get a hefty repair and indeed a few thousand miles later it need a full coil pack etc for £2k, but nothing since. So for £17k i have had this 430bhp monster for 3 years and could probably sell it for £10k - the low depreciation easily makes up for the frequent petrol station visits. Also it is a great "sleeper" car with discrete V10 badge only real giveaway as many BMW 3-series drivers found out - plus quattro burns it off the line. [|http://thumbsnap.com/URn25c6g[/url]

Don't do it. There isn't a modern car on the road that is less reliable and more of a night mare than these things. EVERYTHING goes on them and EVERYTHING is a fortune. I could list endless examples of customers cars costing jaw dropping amounts. Fast, yes but the steering is lifeless and Quattro or not, they feel nervous and uncommunicative at speed. Not what you want in a car that can achieve the speeds these can. But that's irrelevant. Audi will have it more than you do and the relentless monster bills will render your pay check equally irrelevant. Guaranteed nightmare, avoid avoid avoid.

As a C5 owner I think the post above is a little melodramatic.

Count on servicing costs of £500 the first year and a grand the second year then so on and so
forth with a huge 5K bill every 5 years when it is cambelt and discs time and perhaps a bit of
intercooler reconditioning and other assorted jobs.

Personally I'd love one of these but sadly I have CKD (chronic kidney disease) so selling aforementioned organs to finance the running costs precludes any ownership prospects..
