We just finished a stage 2 tune on the a 2006 MK1 225hp with the 6 speed and stock turbo and intercoolers; and it is wicked quick now and even more fun. Now it pulls up to about 6800 rpm, but I think the engine could probably spin up to about 9000 if the programming would allow it (maybe upgrading some internals and a stage 3 programming of the ECM would do that).

The TT is the car I wanted my 1980 Sirocco to be when I rebuilt a 1.8 GTI engine with forged and balanced 11:1 pistons, over-sized valves and a high-lift racing cam among other things,...into it, decades ago. That engine spun to 8000 before the point ignition started to break down.

Anyone looking to play with this car should first rebuild the suspension and upgrade the shocks and struts; lowering springs aren't recommended due to a change in suspension geometry which apparently doesn't improve the handling...try installing an air dam if you want instead. Finally, this car actually has great ability to be tuned and tweeked for more performance. The engine is a solid platform, and since it's a popular VW, there are many aftermarket parts available. The one downside is the vehicle's weight, but that goes to it's primary design use as a daily driver "for hairstylists" LOL... If our engine was 225hp before, it's likely in the neighborhood of 275 now. I am amazed at the power this 1.8L engine produces without any internal parts upgrades. If this car were simply designed to be a "weekend" car, I'm sure it would have been designed a bit differently, but it wasn't, so to get more out of it, you have to build it in that way yourself. It's not a Porsche, but the purchase price, and that of the parts reflects that.
