Model number. The ST185 had 215bhp and the ST205 had 250bhp IIRC. Both were quite lardy and laggy but when up to speed they were rapid and handled ok, but maybe suffered from too much grip vs balance.
What, lardy and laggy? 205's are ~1350kg, my 205 made full boost (1.1bar) at 1800rpm and kept it to 7500rpm. Nothing lardy or laggy about it.

The 185's were quite a lot heavier (partly due to the granite electric seats) and due to their old tech management systems were hard to tune above 250bhp where as the 205 the could be turned up to ?350bhp with an FMIC, boost controller and ecu upgrade.

The 205's ECU is no more advanced than the 185's. The main differences between the 205 and the 185 for making power are the 205 has bigger injectors and a much better turbo.

I have had my ST205 on a weigh bridge and was mid 1300 KG's. Mine has no sunroof, airbags or ABS, also no spare wheel and the sound system has been ripped out and replaced with a light double din. (It had about 3 OEM 90's amps in it which were bloody massive and heavy!)

When you think an RS3 or Focus RS is tipping the 1600KG's mark. It is a featherweight in comparison.

And a head gasket which is not made of chocolate. All 185's will need a metal ST205 gasket to get to the higher powers. Saying that if I did hardly any commute miles I would love a ST185 CS as a daily driver as I do think they make a better GT car.

The 205 had MAP sensors rather than th 185's finger in the air AFM

It did, but you'll run out of injectors and turbo on a gen2 3SGTE before the AFM becomes a limitation.

I always thought it was accuracy that was more the problem.

Oh yeas, 4wd, rally, Safari/ 10 000 lakes rallies and 90's Celica... This car and finnish rally drivers made me a petrolhead. It was something special to see gt4 to win those harsh competitions. Of course i do like 70's Celicas quite a lot, but 4wd ones are maybe more special to me. I haven't driven GT4 but even 2.0 GT with about 170hp was a funny and balanced car. And that heritage smile

Personally i own early 90's Toyota Coupe/sports car or whatta hell you wanna call it. And owning it has been a very pleasant experience. 90's Toyota sports cars are little bit of special, because they are made so well (ridiculous reliability) and they all look good with classic lines (IMO of course). They offer fairly good performance (grip and brakes too) without any electric nannies which is nice. Good middle point of modern-ish drivability and old time you are your own if you fked up -mentality. driving

If you wan't to have a GT4 or MR2 you should buy it ASAP. Especially GT4 prices have soared up around the world and it is just matter of time when it hits to UK prices. Maybe year or two.

I loved my ST185 Celica GT4, many days rallying through Ozzie countryside.
