True but a boggo 911 is a 77k car so paying 127k for the turbo doesn't seem that bad (for a Porsche the turbo is well equipped) these cars are based on 35k rep mobiles so 90k+ does for me start to stretch the elasticity of the segment.
77k seems a bit much for something with a drive train based on the same from VW Beetle I'd have thought. Can't believe some of the comments about this epic car ,surely the negative comments are from people that should be on a different forum ?
A usuable saloon with the performance of a super car in a comfortable package and people don't like it ? Wow wonder what they drive ?
Apart from looks the mid engined super cars can't offer much more than this high end saloon and it's not really that high priced taking performance into account .

some of the comments above are just 'trollin for a lolin'
this car will be a really nice daily for those who do not do lots of mileage. as stated previously the interior is god awful but it's probably preferable to some. Audi and BMW are now behind the curve so mercedes deserve some real credit as this is a brave car. both in terms of power and the drive train.
that said, it's a blunderbuss. if you like track days a 911 C4S will leave it for dead around a track over 5 laps by which time this car will have either killed its brakes or run out of fuel.
i will not even attempt to respond to the question as to what a proper mid engined sports car gives over this as the question does not belong on PH !
mercedes have a great 911 competitor but this car is not it. and epic green machine this saloon is not.
that said due to price hike mercedes have put this car not against the 911 but head to head with the nissan GT-r. What say you NIssan ?

That's just wanting to use numbers to prove your own right A boggo e class does start at 35k, and it goes up to over 100k, but that extra (indeed, ridiculous) 70k does buy you 2 times the cylinders, 4 times the horsepower and tonnes of kit.
A turbo S is 145k, what does the exta 77k get you? Another 6 cylinder with not even twice the horsepower. Seems like you're being ripped off with that extra 70k tbh.
But I guess that's the way things go - prices go up and never come down. There is a shock of the price and then it settles and people accept it until next time they hike them. If a 'famiy' saloon is over £106k now, surely we will be seeing a non-GT 911 pushing £200k within a few years. That's life.

But the performance of these big heavy super saloon – or estates – is now ridiculous.
Where does this end by the way – this car has 621HP - will the 2025 E63 have 800+hp?
I think it’s totally unnecessary this performance in an everyday car – which is what it is otherwise what is the point in it over a 458, Lambo, GT3 RS etc....

People were saying the same about the Lotus Carlton 20-30yrs ago with a whopping 377bhp.
To an extent, I can see your point. But a 458 or GT3 can't waft your family at a stirring pace across the country, whilst allowing you a little fun when driving solo.
The interiors of these cars are also often a cut above the humdrum models, so are nicer to live in.
Yes, they're rarely the last word in handling prowess. But that's rarely the point of them really either, and with modern chassis and electronics they aren`t too bad.
I love my RS4. Similar concept lower down the model scale. It handles brilliantly, is nicely appointed and feels robust/safe. The other half loves driving it too. So if something like that is OK, then surely the extension of the concept works? (If not, get out! ).
I have much more of an "issue" with monstrosities like the SQ7. But there's obviously a market for them and they're often the test beds for new "stuff". So live and let live I say

Oh dear. Top Gear fan I take it?
More The Grand Tour after a 5 year Clarkson layoff. I've owned a 911, it's a great car. Worth the money? Not sure.PhantomPH said:

I found myself dismissing them as the later biturbo is faster and can be remapped to 600 odd bhp, yeah, because, of course, 503 bhp and 470 lb/ft of torque wont be enough, shows how power addled we have got !

I like performance cars as much as the next person and owned a few and a few performance bikes but I also think 621HP is unnecessary in a saloon/estate car like this
In this you won’t ‘waft your family at a stirring pace across the country’ you will be giving the granny whiplash at warp speed every times you floor it 
And the missus, kids etc will go mad if you drove it any more than 50% throttle. Most will be school runned at 20mph in traffic using 5% of its power reserves
If you were cruising down a road at say 40mph then totally floor this E63 with 621HP the acceleration will be insane
I haven’t drove one of these obviously but it’s got similar performance to a McLaren MP4-12C which I have driven and that I think would be too much for a family car. I floored the MP4 12 a couple of times to get maximum acceleration at 40MPH on a normal A/B Road and it was utterly insane. I loved it but it was verging on the too fast for the road category – corners approach very fast. And this E63 would have similar performance!
Personally I don’t think you would need any more performance than say an RS4 – have you ever drove your car with your family and thought, damm I need a another 250BHP+ and another 300lb ft torque as I can’t get past that tractor in less than 0.2sec 
RS4’s with the flared arches – as I say they look so different that a standard A4. Same with the RS6. Same with M3
I would rather a RS4 Avant or M3 Saloon over one of these for about half the money, both have enough performance and enough room.
But this Merc looks the same as a E220 CDI with the AMG Line Kit – but costs over 100k. It’s just spending money for the sake of it, like the Maybach G65 and $1M Diamond encrusted watches 
