... Seriously when are car manurfactuers going to stop chasing power figures and focus on cars which are fun to drive and live with. .
Please see the threads on the Toyota GT-86 and the sales figures for Louts.

Ok so its not going to re write the book on handling feel and dynamics etc. but what it will do is be well built, have a great interior especially with the new virtual display. be quick enough for me and safe enough for the wife to drive in all weathers. and a bonus it has a great engine which the M2 doesn't.

Dont get me wrong I love the M2 (have a CS on order) and M4 but I wouldnt feel comfortable her in door using over winter. She would have it in a field.

I see the RS3 as having a bit of character and very quick A-B weapon. Nice when you dont want to be going sideways everywhere.

A goodlooking car with a decent interior and one of the best engine notes of all time. But the 40-50k price is ridic. You can get a faster GT-R or cooler Aston Vantage for that kinda money.

But it's going to...

Understeer
Feel numb
Be badly damped
Be over servo'd
Be pretty lifeless

Why will this one be different?
Audi do all of the above very well, had a s4 (b8) oh lordy what dull piece of st that was.

You might find the GT-R and the Aston at this price point will be slightly older and slightly knackered smile

p.s. £40K will also buy you 100 JVC LT-55C550 55" LED Televisions from Currys .....

Of course I love seat of your pants, feel, PH director sideways hero stuff too. but we have other cars for that. When you just want to go fast somewhere in comfort an RS3 is a good bet.

Yep... that's the only way a car like the RS3 would make any sense to me.
As you are a fellow Cayman owner, you clearly know what you are talking about wink

Can get a 140i for what, 27 grand from a broker, I reckon with a few twiddly bits this will be getting on from 20 grand more expensive as I dont think there are discounts available, cant imagine it will be significantly quicker in the dry.

There is going to be a lot of choice in the secondhand > 250 bhp market in years to come.

The first para implies that there is going to be a new hot 1 series with xDrive and high 300s hp. Are you sure that is what you were supposed to be implying?

Aren't there changes due for the M2 soon?

Maybe that's what they mean.

Bought an appliance white s3 last month and really enjoying it.. It's a lovely all rounder for me anyway. Please don't hate me. smile

Without wanting to draw the wraith of the ph driving gods here, how often do you actually get the opportunity to provoke a car into understeer/oversteer on public roads? My S3 feels so planted that I feel I'd need to be doing licence loseing speeds to provoke it into understeer? Never driven an M car so perhaps I'm naive regarding dynamics?

If you take finance and get the BMW finance contribution, the M140i deals are crazy at the moment. I've got a 5dr auto coming next month with a handful of options on it, including metallic paint, the poncy media package, HK stereo upgrade and adaptive suspension, and it came in at a whisker over £29k. BMW Finance are sticking £3k in, and the dealer dropped by £4k!

The RS3 has AWD security and is going to be quicker in anything other than bone dry conditions, but it's not even close to being a £20,000 better car IMHO. Each their own, of course.

Look dear, its a family car, a small estate with lots of room for child seats and strollers.

Yes, company finance director, its a practical work car, with four doors and CO2 within guidelines that customers won't make assumptions about cos its just an Audi hatch.

....but you get 400hp and lots of clever tech.

Thats why these things get leased.

400bhp! Wow! To think a few generations ago supersaloons were running 400bhp...BMW M5 E39 comes to mind. I know the delivery is completely different - 2.5 cyl turbo vs 4.9 V8 N/A but still wow!

I think it looks nice I'd want a black pack on it though rather than the silver trim.

Sometimes you get bored of spinning the rears up when just trying to pull smartly out of a junction, my M3 is a bit mental, fine on a dry summers day but a PITA at other times.

"pestering 911's"? who writes this juvenile crap? it suggests buyers of RS3s et al get up in the morning with the sole intent of driving for the hell of it and tracking down cars that they know they can beat or want to beat.

Nothing surprising here. Audi have been pumping out huge power from 5 clylinder engines since late 70s and 80s.

Didn't the Audi 90 GTO race car have over 600bhp?
