Excellent! Do tell us more about your experiences over ten years, what to watch for etc etc?

I think this is going to be a great thread, and clearly more to come from PH on Type R'ssmile
Well the only thing that has broken in 10 years (now on about 68k miles i think) is the motor which runs the rear window screen wash.... insurance can be expensive but only tyres/fuel/servicing are needed and mine uses very little oil, if any between services.

Its been a great all rounder, yes its not massively quick by modern standards but a little over 6 seconds to 60 and the fun factor... its good to rev around the clock. driving

I do about 6-7 miles to work and back a day but try and stretch its legs on a weekend. As most Type-R owners are probably aware of, if you take them on track (i haven't) or out into the wilderness on NSL roads (i have!) they drive so much better/responsive after an Italian/Japanese/Swindon tune-up but then after a few weeks of a daily commute settle back down to normal again. Unfortunately i don't get to do it as often as i want!

One of the few downsides is its not brilliant on the motorway, high gearing and no cruise control... first world problems hehe

PH, will you please stop lauding the DC2! I need them to stay as under-appreciated as they were when i owned my two so I can buy another one in future at a sensible price...

...and here you are telling everyone how bloody good they are! frown

Owned my DC2 5 years now, longest I've ever owned a car by far.

It's that good, I've had to buy another one, just with less holes in it.

Fantastic!

The question is where the hell do you get one these days?!

I gave up after looking at a genuine two owner 38k mile one in 2015, it had clearly been cherished by the first owner of 15 years, but even that had clear signs of arch rustfrown
Danny - yeah, I had my second for >6 years and only sold because we started a family. For what I got for it (<£4k for a FHSH sub-100k mile black car with working a/c) I should have squirreled it away somewhere and got the arches sorted...

acme - the rust is fixable - buy one in the best mechanical condition without masses of rot, get the arches (& bonnet above the striker panel?) sorted, plug the known water ingress points, then underseal properly. Then take it out for a B-road blast, come home, down 2 valium to take the edge off... wink

So almost picked up a facelift EP3 a couple of years ago, and kind of wish I had because prices haven't dropped a bit! As it is, the only Honda I've had was a Mk2 CRX, which was fantastic fun smile

Would love a DC5 at some point... but again, prices just never seem to come down!

That literally made me laugh out loud......from the two I've test driven it certainly isn't a car to come back from having driven barely having remembered the journey!

Having read about the gap near the arches to actually see it on a totally original car is simply astounding. As I say that 38k miler really put me off, spotless in every possible way, yet still blistering from the inside. £500 per side is what someone once quoted me, I had enough of treating rust on my first car every six months to last a lifetime!

£500/side sounds about right, but every 6 months? Nah...done properly (fix the ingress-point and underseal with the sills off) and it'll be OK for several years...maybe re-underseal after 4-5...

Owned an EP3 Civic Type-R for a couple of years and found it a wonderful car. Great duality, never once let me down and was always fun to drive. Contrast this to the current Type-R I recently drove and I found it utterly soulless. Very fast but it had little to no redeeming features other than being a very powerful car.

Bought this Milano Red EP3 a few weeks back. Has a few minor niggles but drives well. A real Jekyll/Hyde car - a roomy hatch to transport all your stuff in and, if you put your foot down, an absoluute maniac (the sound of the K&N Typhoon intake helps). Altogether a pretty analogue experience. Funny how small it looks in real life when compared to modern machinery.

I love my FN2 which I've had almost five years now. Never get fed up of the cool looks and sound. But it needed a fair bit spending on it as the brakes weren't great and the performance underwhelming especially after a few years in an S2000. But with a few bolt ons, weight reduced a bit and 245BHP or so it's a brilliant car!

My 2004 Na2 Type R. Imported by me from Japan 2016. Shown here at Silverstone Classic last summer.

Are you currently in the market for adoption!? hehe

How do you find the ride on your average B road? Looking at all the 'Best Motoring' videos online, it seems to be rather stiff.
I would suggest you take a look at this video for an impartial view of how the NA2 NSX R drives in the round:

My own review would be a little more enthusiastic. I love all NSX having had several base models and a NA1 Type R, the NA2 type R is for me the ultimate NSX and the ultimate Type R. I donBut I accept I am completely biased.

Loved my accord type r. Had a few mods on it. Took it to castle Combe a few times and the Nurburgring and it was brilliant. Get to the apex (or even before the apex), feel like you're on the edge of grip and then just plant the throttle and hold on! Took a while to trust it but was so enjoyable once you did.

One of the most significant (and cheapest) changes was to add some toe out at the front. Made it a little more nervous at higher speeds on the straight but you'd get used to that but it made such a big difference to the turn in.

At Combe.

Driven a cousins dc2 quite hard on the road and loved that. Also driven a friends ep3 with minimal mods (springs, ds2500s and semi slicks) and was surprised how much I enjoyed that as well.

The thing with these cars is you have to use all the revs which some may see as hard work but also, you can use every drop of horsepower on the bends. Because they don't have a lot of torque compared to something with a turbo you can get on the power so early.

I missed mine so much i bought another a in January.

Slowly building on an allready great base , Hondata reflash , quickshift lever and a few other bits. Such a nice car to drive. The steering is less digital than the earlier ones and the Premier seats are amazing.

Rude not to post some pics of my DC2's I suppose. One nice one and the other two.....well they could do with some work

If you want a rust free one get a fresh import. 10 bhp more and they look a lot nicer to my eyes

I feel a bit of a fraud posting in this forum however I was smitten with the Type R / vTec engine after driving the accord, S2000 & Integra Type R & knew it was the only engine I'd use in this...

There's nothing that gives a bigger grin than 8000rpm in a car that weighs less than 750kg...........wwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaappppppppp..........wwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaapppppppp ;-)

It's a great video and illustrates everything wrong with the current NSX.

They are fantastic cars. I still remember going into the Honda Two Mills garage with my mum as she got her car serviced there (from 2001-2010). Occasionally there would be an NSX or two, especially during the early to mid noughties. Never saw an NSX-R in the flesh but even the standard ones left a lasting impression on me. The last NSX I saw in there was an Imola orange one I believe. Unfortunately my efforts to get my mum to buy it weren't very successful, it's a shame as they certainly don't make them like this anymore. It's equally sad to see the Two Mills garage is now a carpet shop, especially as it had so much history with the company.

Regardless it's a fantastic car you've got there. If you ever go to another meet or car show please let us all know. I'm sure many, including myself, would love to see a real one in person!

First time Type R and FK2 Owner...

I decided to trade an everyday V50 T5 and a Weekend MK1 Focus RS for one car... There happens to be a Honda Dealership 1.5 miles away and I thought I would pop in and see if they had a type R to have a go in.. A test drive later, I had to have one and bough a 5 month, 2500 mile one (in the crap photo below).

It is great and I have never had so many random people come up and talk to me about it! Although my wife had no idea what it was laughed out loud at it when she saw it for the first time...

Cheers
