Here we go again. Why can't you people just not bother posting if you don't have anything interesting to say about it? By all means criticise the car if you think there's some tangible aspect of it that warrants criticism. And do base that on the content of the article or your own experiences driving one.
Frankly, if all you can do is look up the list of pathetic clichés: VAG=boring, and post that then you are the ones who are boring. Never, ever describe any car as boring, let alone one with 300 sodding bhp. If you can't get into a 300 bhp car, or any car for that matter, and make it fun, then you need a different hobby.
While we're on the subject, stop describing French cars as unreliable, American cars as bad at cornering, Italian cars as rust buckets, Porsches as never changing or convertibles as hairdresser's cars. They are very, very crappy old clichés, we've heard a million times before. If you can't think of anything useful to say, say nothing.
I haven't driven one of these. I did consider getting a 280 when they came out and had a test drive of an FR, which was all the dealer had.
It was a bit dull, to be honest.

Your point in the first part of you post is perfectly valid. However I'm very confident the rest of it should easily make most hypocritical post of the year, even though it's only February.Frankly, if all you can do is look up the list of pathetic clichés: VAG=boring, and post that then you are the ones who are boring. Looks a pretty boring car to me and I'm not sure who would want this over the Golf R estate. Still, nice to have alternative options I guess.

As an aside, just because a csr has 300bhp doesn't make it fun, you have to factor in gearing, handling, steering, tyre adhesion, braking etc.
I can think of a very prominent later 60's American car I once drove, 300+bhp? Tick. Fun? Er, yes, if you class drum brakes that seemed intent on giving you near-death experiences, and steering that was as vague as a politician when asked to explain their expenses claims..
Why is it that I had as much fun in my 210bhp UR QUttro, or 205bhp Sierra Cosworth? It's not all about power.
And whilst it's still a free country, with freedom of speech hanging on by the skin of its teeth, people can, and indeed should express opinion, validated or not by their own experience.
Over to you Mr Trump.....

So you test drove an FR but are commenting on a Cupra 280/290/300?It was a bit dull, to be honest.
Different engine. Different suspension.
I had an R and now have a cupra. Admittedly both 5dr rather than estate or ST or whatever marketing departments decided they're called that week.
Interior wise the cupra has a bit less tinsel and glitter but the quality is equal with the golf. The biggest thing from the drivers perspective is that the bucket seats in the cupra are miles better than any seat option for the golf.
I've never understood the point in making a 4wd cupra but seeing the price difference in other countries justifies its existence. In the UK there is just no point. Unless you really need the 4wd (and let's be honest, not many of us in the UK do) save yourself the expense and get the FWD cupra. It's a little sharper, a little more lively, a little more frantic and a little more interesting than the 4wd cars.

that is one mundane looking vehicle
For a car that fits a whole family, is quicker than most cars actually on the road and doesn't cost a small fortune, I think it has a rather nice design. Of course no comparison to a low slung coupe, compared to that it goes completely unnoticed. Which is quite nice for a change, debadged it's a real sleeper. Onehp said:

Exactly, Mundane compared to what? It's one of the better looking estate cars.I like this a lot, and that it is a bit of sleeper.
Pros for me
+ Fast
+ Great traction (4drive)
+ Loads of space
+ Low key, understated looks
+ NOT another Audi/Merc/BMW/Golf R
+ Very well equipped (DCC as standard)
+ Alcantara bucket seats available
+ Sensible running costs
+ Cheaper options, better Nav, sound, 5 year warranty etc all better value
Negatives
- It's too close in price to the R, given it will depreciate quickly
- Why no 18" wheel option? Not everyone wants 19's
