RE: Ferrari 812 Superfast - official
Discussion
Headline grabbing power and a detailed discussion on PS, HP, CV and exactly how much ponies it has.
And not a word about weight. If you ask Ferrari they state '1525kg' (dry, all lightweight options). Same as the F12. When Sport Auto measured a fuelled F12 the scales said 1715kg iirc. Motor Trend weighed 1816kg curb weight. That is compared to most cars coming by here measured with the eu definition, 1790-1891kg. Mind, acceleration won't be be lacking, but it ain't anywhere lightweight. As if anybody cares, hp figures are so much more sexy. But personally I do think that a smaller engine and lower kerb weight (same bhp/weight) would be even better... bit like a McLaren 675 or its successor? But this one is NA V12 that revs to the sky, that's the whole point I suppose. And more comfortable. Probably a great great car if you live in Germany and get to use that engine.

Without the mid engined weight distribution/traction advantage, I think 800bhp without 4 wheel drive is bloody mad.
Actually it is mid engine (behind front axle) and trans axle gearbox with more weight on the rear (53%), and as mentioned above, quite a lot of it probably if it's anything like the F12 but true, it's the main reason for it being such a hooligan tyre smoker compared to a mid engine behind the cabin layout.Edited by Onehp on Saturday 18th February 04:20

Meh, I find the horsepower wars a bit tiresome now. There's a point where more power and speed is getting dangerous and soon we'll see a reversion to lighter, 'slower', more engaging cars from more manufacturers than just Mazda and Lotus.
It's going to be Group B all over again. It's not my sort of car.
As a couple of people have posted above, and I posted on the unoffical other thread - this really is a bit too much in a road car. I mean the numbers are wow, but is it any good on the road at speeds up to, say, about 70mph?
I don't do trackdays anymore, so I'll keep hankeing after and buying Lotus, and Caterham, and the lesser Porsches, and old classic sportscars.
