My mate drove from Sussex to Sheffield to swap his 987S Boxster for... an Insignia VXR. Mad.

from near Leeds.

Travelled all the way down to bognor regis which a 630 mile round trip for an sl500. as described, nice chap selling. deal done and off we went within the hour. 5 hours later shes sat on my driveway. 5months later a chap who lives 10 miles away from the chap i bought it from, sees my ad in the AT and a deal is done. Back down she went.

following year found a nice audi a5 3litre tdi quattro down in essex. Asked if it had had any paint in it life (owned from new) etc. the reply was nope, all good. 3.5 hours later arrive at his house and i can see the ripple of filler and the most dull paint job ive ever seen in my life on the whole of the rear quarter. was there literally 2 mins. 3.5hours back up the A1.

win some lose some.

My record is about 1400 miles. Just before I left Hungary permanently I bought a 1-owner Octavia sight unseen from a dealer in Mansfield. Flew over and then drove it back to Budapest. Six weeks later loaded it up and drove back to the UK. Good purchase, exactly as in advert. Funnily enough a couple of year later they became my local dealer anyway. Good bunch of folks.

I jumped on a plane to Eindhoven last month to pick up a car.

A UK plated 1995 Merc w202 C280 (really quite a rare car in a manual). Stripped out, low, AMG brakes, welded diff. Very silly.

The owner had bought it in the UK 6 years ago and driven it home to Eindhoven. He then realised that there was no affordable way to register it in The Netherlands with the mods it had, so he put it the corner of his barn and forgot about.
I flew over, put a new battery on it and drive it home (via an MOT station of course wink ).

Utterly bonkers thing. It tries to kill me constantly. Although not entirely convinced with the diff, it's such a hoot to drive. I've done nearly 2000 miles in it in the last month. My regular daily e63 is sat on the drive looking quite disgruntled.

I generally don't mind travelling as long as I deem it worthwhile. I'm usually quite picky with specifications etc so sometimes needs must.

In the last year I've traveled from near Leeds to Milton Keynes for an SLK350, near Leeds to Bedford for an Alfa Giulietta and near Leeds to Northampton for an MK indy.

The last 2 were within 6 days of each other - rather annoying as they are quite close!

All turned out great though.

Today I left the house at 5am. A taxi, a plane, a bus, a ferry and then the drive home. Finally got on my drive at gone 10pm.

But it was worth it

Recently did a few trips to collect cars, ironically, both variants of the same car!

Drove into the center of London to collect a Megane RS265. Perfect spec, and the figures worked.

Recently Drove from Bristol to High Wycombe to collect another Megane, this time a better specced, better priced, White RS250.

not done mental miles, but everything else has been within 20 or 30 miles.

My R8 just bought from Northern Ireland. First trip to view was on new yrs eve and turned into a party coming home new yrs day. Second trip to pick it up became a road trip around NI on the Atlantic coast road visiting the excellent giants causeway and home via Londonderry, Donegal, Sligo etc and then to Dublin on the ferry. Around 500m back in total which was fab.
