The other neighbour. I refer to him as 'Jagman'

We too have a Jagman neighbour! You couldn't meet a nicer bloke. But he has a bit of a 'thing' about parking. For as long as I can remember he put his car outside during the day, half on the pavement. He would never say anything about it but the only intention could have been to stop anyone else parking there. Somehow - despite it always being there - the bloke opposite managed to properly back into it one day resulting in a bit of damage and hassle. Always parked on the driveway since!

We moved into our house about 7 months back and it was one of the last to be built on the street. The roads are very narrow just enough for 2 cars to pass side by side and the opposite house with a 2 car driveway was parking one of their 2 cars right opposite my driveway with all 4 wheels on the road so the hassle of manoeuvring in and out of my driveway was getting beyond a joke. After a few days of moving in and hoping the occupants would cotton on that the parking was causing me to do a 12 point turn i had enough and went and knocked on. I was polite and introduced myself and explained my situation. They appologised and since then have parked on their own driveway. Turned out to be quite nice people.

Sadly not all people are like that.

You have said you have been on this house for a year so perhaps moving is not ideal just now. I would just bear it and move in a few years time. As you said, even being a good house, having a steep drive and narrow street is not ideal for a petrolhead or otherwise. Your wife should also accept and support you in your love for cars and what that means when choosing a house to buy/move.

We face a similar situation too, majority of folk who live on our road are "older/retired", guy across the road insists on moving both his cars each morning around 6am and parking directly opposite our driveway, I see no logic to this what so ever, other than to just be awkward, even more annoyingly is the fact that his driveway will comfortably fit a minimum of 3cars, I have spoke with him about this previously but his answer was simply "its what ive always done".... I just dont see the logic behind some peoples actions.
Just watch any episode of 'Nighmare Neighbours' (ITV) and you will see how selfish and un-accomodating some are. There is one, or more, of these types in every Street, Avenue, Close, Road, village and town.

Well he collared me and said he had visitors coming and asked me if I would mind moving my car. I told him If I got a chance I would do so.

My car is still there. Incidentally before he asked me. A woman parked up on next doors side and walked into jag man's house opposite.

Whilst walking she was talking to a young girl and pointing at my car. She did not look happy.

Jagman has moved his repmobile to his own drive now.

It's a two car drive but one car has to get out to let the one out behind.

Oh well. My car is still there....

Taking 3yr old to footy tomorrow at 9am, wonder whether his jag will be back on the road.

My parents have a similar, but infrequent, type of situation - the only other difference being the neighbours will move their car ASAP if they see my parents come out the house or a second car come onto my parents drive.

The problem is modern houses and new estate roads are more so designed for 2 cars, but some families have 3 or 4 cars due to kids etc.

Not worth having a run in with the neighbours - unless you can suggest an alternative to their parking needs (you can fit all your cars on the drive, they can't?) ?

There is an entrance to some local ponds and woodlands directly opposite my drive so people parking opposite my drive is a daily occurrence, luckily the road is quite wide but it still means that most of the time I can't turn right out of my drive which happens to be the only way out of the street. Sometimes I bring the works van home which is a jumbo Transit and overhangs out of the driveway, this then means if people park opposite it blocks the road which then makes things quite amusing.
My mothers street is even worse, it's only a small dead end terrace with 17 houses but most houses have 2 or even 3 cars with everyone fighting for space. What then happens when there is no more space is people will start blocking my mothers drive, even when her car is parked on it! I have told her to give me a ring if ever she can't get out and I'll fetch the tow rope, so far I haven't had to...

Several years lived on a new estate. We had a chap over the road with a Vecta. Two car garage - pretty big driveway... But only he was allowed to use it. His daughter had to park on the road. As below... We lived where the Japanese SUV is - she used to park alongside their garage... I had a Volvo - not the best for turning circle...

I snapped in the end, which is why she now parks on the other side of the drive...

Keep parking in the road and when they say something say that you can't park on your drive because of the way they park. They will hopefully understand and change their tune.

Pics or a diagram please.

I have someone park opposite too even though they have a 2 car drive. 1 car having being worn since it was bought. It's not too bad getting on and off the drive but it's a busy road and reversing off the drive is a bit of a pain.

Reversing IN may be more sensible?

A double garage and a double drive.
Why buy a new build with these if you don't use them ?

Blimey what a longwinded passive aggressive way to do things

Should have just gone over the minute it annoyed you , politely explained the situation and ask them to give you more space

Neighbours probably didn't realise you were struggling and if they did just be more forceful and tell them not to park there

Had plenty of similar issues with neighbours over the years , last thing you want to do is rnd up in some tit for tat middle class limp wristed war .

You can never argue with idiots , they will lower you down to their level and win on experience
