28mph over about 150 miles @ 16.2mpg - I reset the computer every time I refill the tank. This is on a C63 wagon. Mix of 40mph roads and emptyish motorways.

Was gonna say that's a pretty fast speed for an awful mpg!

My Z4 Coupe is showing 38.2 mph and 31.7 mpg average (over about 6 weeks as it had a new battery).

My 325ti Compact is showing 31.8mph and 34.7 mpg (over 2+ years and 16K miles).

Happy with both - you can probably tell I don't commute!

Mostly city driving with occasional motorway.

X5 3.0sd - 21.4mpg, average speed 19.8mph. Claimed 34.4mpg combined.
XC90 D5 - 25.5mpg, average speed 21.4mph (this car hasn't seen the motorway in a long time). Claimed 33.3mpg combined.
WOW I have a PETROL 3.0 X3 and I average around 23mph and 22mpg! Rarely see the motorway.

Over 438miles driving south on Friday - reset the computer when I filled up in Scotland.
58 mph
54.3 mpg

Long term average consumption over the 65,000 miles / 5 years I'd had the 330d, recording pretty much every tank full.
45mpg.

In fairness, mine rarely sees the town, I'm rural scotland so lots of long distance journeys everywhere between Lerwick and Florence. Adding Porto this summer...

I'd like to change it now it's tipped 104,000 miles, but honestly can't find anything more capable other than a new version of the same. Still looks and drives great.

OMG! I get pissed off if my average MPH drops below 50. There really are some advantages to living in rural Scotland. I feel sorry for all you living south of the border.

I have to say, the X5 is quite disappointing on diesel, and it certainly costs more to run in general. It does weigh 2200kg so doing 4 miles a day sometimes in a car like this where the engine barely gets warm would likely hit the mpg quite badly. Beats the E39 though.

Its because they are driving slower with the window down enjoying the warm sunshine.

According to the computer 44.8 mph, 32.4 mpg over the couple of years and 30k miles (calculated mpg is 32.0). Most miles are on fast A roads and M'way at quiet times. Was over 50 mph early last year but gets more urban use now.

40 mph average over the last 20k miles / 1 yr. 95% m'way driving, as I live 40 miles from work approx & it takes an hour there or back 40 mph is disappointingly accurate.

It's an amazing week when I get above 30mph average speed, and i have a 16mile cross country B road commute! There is so much traffic these days, that that commute is a 'follow the leader' nose to tail trail of cars, usually stuck behind some massive numpty doing 27 mph, and who still needs to touch the brakes on every corner, or every time a car comes the otherway.......
laughlaugh This is the exact stuff I experience everyday on my commute however it's about 8 miles thruugh the city

What the hell is that about? I've followed similar people and have followed them for a mile without needing to touch the brake pedal at all while they'll have braked about 30 times.

My Golf's average speed is 31mph, but I don't think I have ever reset it since buying and it's not helped by living in gods waiting room!
