Similar situation to yourself (although older 32). Myself and three friends literally could not wait to get our licenses. All we wanted. Rode bikes all the way upto 17th birthday and then it was lessons on the day etc.

I am still a keen driver although my cars have not been that exciting I still try to have fun.

Friends that I mentioned. Zero interest. They will still rag their cars (very) occasionally but its a time / £ issue with a lot of people.

I’m 21, and love driving. I couldn’t wait to pass my test when I turned 17, and thanks to having a father who’s a driving instructor managed to pass four weeks after my seventeenth.

I’ve had a lot of cars since passing my test, and currently drive a modified Toyota Supra. I don’t think I’m particularly unusual in this respect either as many of my friends love cars and driving too.
I've always lusted after a supra cloud9

Reckon by the time I'm old enough to insure one the prices will either be 20k+ or it'll be impossible to find a manual twin turbo!

I can dream..

Fall slightly out the bracket at 21 but I bought my mk1 MX5 on a whim at 19 and would literally spend all my free time driving around good bits of Ayrshire and surrounding areas. Favourite thing to do was drive to the Gleniffer Braes or Largs in the small hours with the roof down. 2.5 years later between me and my OH we have five cars they range between 2 months old and 25 years old. More than happy with driving the older cars but required something reliable for work so got the Abarth but it's on a stupidly low mileage PCP so can't really take it out runs frown

interesting thread, reading this makes me feel super old (34) smile I think its a age/generation thing, but there are also friends I have my age that aren't really into cars, but they would consider having the latest Audi S-Line/M-Sport/AMG Line diesel as being into cars, I've tried to explain that being a car guy doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what you drive, but the joy of driving could be greater in a 1990's rust bucket than a brand new German motor....its kind of lost on them.

However my brothers and cousins, we regularly (twice per annum) arrange a road trip purely for the joy of driving and adventure...and my mates usually say...why didn't you fly? I don't think its worth explaining to them. During a conversation with my car nuts family we did say, road trips are possibly something of the past for many now, its probably always going to be a bit of a niche...I think its probably more of a risk to those who love to track...wonder if the track day scene is becoming less popular as the years roll on?

One of my younger cousins (under 16) seems to be a fan of EV vehicles...pushing the boundaries of car nuts but possibly may see him in our convoy one day in his EV (will have to pump some fake V12 sounds into the cabin!) smile

I'm 21 and always been into cars, but unable to find the time to just go for a drive! I have a Peugeot 306 1.9TD that I've owned for about two-and-a-half years and have taken from 101k miles to 151k miles so far! Almost all of that is commuting or driving to a destination rather than for the fun of it!

When I bought the car I didn't have a pot to piss in, but am now in a position where I could upgrade to a new car if desired. But I have no intentions of doing that and I much prefer driving something a little bit different and far easier to maintain.

I think that modern cars are to blame for why our generation doesn't have any interest in driving. Working at a car auction site, I am fortunate enough to drive dozens of cars and vans every day. The newer cars are so samey and boring. Very impressive on paper, and obviously very capable, but I've driven a lot of up-to-date performance cars and almost always get left underwhelmed due to the fact that the cars have no character whatsoever.

I can honestly say that the more simple the car, the more enjoyment I get out of driving it. My favourites include a MkII Fiesta, an AX, a 205, an R5, a Caterham and of course old-school Minis!
