What would you do with this masterpiece? You'd put it inside a covered trailer and take it down to Goodwood, obviously.

Dutch ace Gijs van Lennep winning LM twice in a 917 beast helped me appreciating this Porsche. In 2006 I saw one in anger for the 1st time and it was awesome.

Not the quickest of the grid - by a mile, the Lola sportscars outperformed the 917... but then they are replicas mostly and are raced to break - but here in epic livery.

To give an impression of the competition. Petrolhead nirvana.

Jo Siffert's funeral...

Vivid childhood memory... Christmas 1971, my Nan gives me a remote controlled 917 toy in Gulf livery, it gets passed down to my kid brother who smashes it to pieces when he can't figure out how to make it go. B*st*rd.

Is there a separate thread on this? The ex Sieffert Le Mans film car due at Pebble Beach in a couple of weeks http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1970-porsche-917k... has been pulled. Guide price was $16m and was set to break all sorts of records.

I have seen a number of these cars in reality, and what surprised is how small they are..they are so brilliantly proportioned that the impression from track videos is that they are huge, not the size of Boxster. Magnificent things.
