Guys its £400 more to go to a "named" supplier - has anyone experience of this lot and if I went with a cheap one whats the worst that could happen.

What do you class as named. I've used First Utility who are good and Ovo in the past. My GB Energy experience wasn't so good as they went under but thankfully the contract was taken over by Co-op and the fixed rate contract honoured.

Watching this with interest as EDF recently hiked their prices.

We use Bulb. Debit card payment once a month on our readings.

Which means First Utility aren't sitting on chunks of our money for months anymore.

Interested in this too.

Currently with OVO but they've put their prices up 23% this year! Unfortunately everyone else appears to have hiked theirs too, so I'm not sure I can be bothered to switch for £50, although the comparison sites all seem to imply more savings not based on reality.

Don't touch "I Supply" they are a disaster, all sorts of problems with them helping themselves to money from my account, and it never takes less than 20 minutes to be connected to their customer services.
I've gone back to one of the larger suppliers, at least they answer the phone!

OVO have been painless and reasonably priced for us, so I've signed up for a second year despite a cost increase. For me the customer satisfaction (as in my own) was more important than potentially saving up to £80 over the year.

For myself it's £350 extra for OVO I'll risk some hassle :-)

Ouch. Yeah I'd reconsider for that much...

OVO have been good for me, great service, minimal price rises, and 3% interest on balances... I had nearly £2K in there at one point. The electricity still seems to have the amps and volts I need, and the gas smells the same smile

I'm with zog energy for gas (don't currently supply electricity) half the price of British gas and been great so far. The bills are nice and easy to understand to.

We've been with Avro for about 10 months. No complaints from me whatsoever.

I've just changed to bulb, as they were £80 a month cheaper than EDF (using EDF's data) switch was painless.

I'm in the same boat but it hasn't been an issue at all... 18 months of cheap fix left and no problems so far despite them going under.

No issues for me either really. My main concern was that I was in credit so wasn't sure if that would have carried over to Co-op.

Ah, that would be a concern indeed! On a loosely related note I believe some of the smaller companies are advanced payment as well (?) - I suppose the exposure shouldn't be much more than a month's payment but still something to consider if they are regualrly going under...
