Diskloc on the Range Rover after they were all getting nicked.
Don't really know if that vulnerability has been sorted so I still use it if it's going to be left anywhere for some time.

Stoplock Pro was recommended by Autoexpress. It wasn't perfect, but did require a power tool.

Everything else performed rather pathetically. Including disklocks and we're defeated with manual hand tools.

These are the best. Move the box into another gear and wiggle to remove. Or just wrench the fker off if you don't mind a few trim scratches. biggrin

As for defeating a Diskloc quickly autoexpress were testing the old model, I believe they exploited a weakness in the locking mechanism which hasn't existed for years.

I'm reasonably handy with locks and it would take me at least a couple of minutes to have one off without causing a lot of damage/noise.

Bloke lives on my street has 100k worth of RS6 and he has one. Very expensive area too.....Lots of company directors...

I have last week bought an RS4 so I had better get one if I end up parking next to him!

Funny to think in this day and age you use a £20 tool to protect 100k car and have to attach when you get home.

Is this easily overcome by unscrewing the gear knob ?

Could you send me a link to a disklok for £20 please?

I use one of those black and yellow stick like Stoplocks. If I am going somewhere and I have to leave the car in an unlit street or an unfamiliar area I will bring it with me. I also use it at airport parking or even if parked on somebody's drive with nobody at home for any length of time. Otherwise in day to day driving its left in the garage. I've had one since about 2001 ...

No need to thank me but I have found you a 'steering lock' as per thread title for £6.97, only took me a second too.

When I left school, my first job was with Halfords, mainly as a bike mechanic, however I did do all the training courses on the "auto" section, including anti theft devices.

On one of the courses, the trainer had a load of the steering wheel locks available for us to play with and learn all the features and benefits of them. He also showed us how easy they were to bypass, and every time it was the lock mechanism. A few them were opened with a biro lid, most with a pair of hairclips, and one just took a good thump with a screwdriver.

The main takeaway from the course was that none of the mechanical devices would prevent the vehicle being stolen, however back in the early 90's it was more of a deterrent, on the assumption that another vehicle parked nearby without a steering lock would be an easier target.

That is about as secure as chocolate.

A disklok is considered one of the market leaders, hence being more expensive.

Don't worry, I won't thank you! wink

Had one of those on a Peugeot 205 25 years ago. Nobody ever stole it, but it might have been because it was a bottom of the range 1.0 XE (or maybe the car next to it didn't have any kind of steering wheel lock).

Either way, it's not quite a disklok...

On the first page of Diskloks on Ebay ,most are over 100 GBP on buy it now.

They seem to be popular in 7 day auctions too.

Totaly useless IME, undcrew/remove the gear know and lift it off, steering wheels tend to be alarmingly easy to cut through with a hacksaw, i've had a few steeing wheel locks removed by cutting the steering wheel, they then stole 2 of the 3 locks (both the billybat type above that look like a baseball bat) but didn't get the vehical due to hidden cut off switches, the only steering wheel lock worth using IMHO is the disclock, as they prevent the steering wheel being cut and the lock simply slid off.

That's always been my thinking. Ultimately if someone wants to steal your car they will do, no matter what security it has. But it might be enough to put off your average scrote looking for something to rag around the local estate

Isn't this the same as 'hiding your keys' so they can't take the car?

Surely they could just break in and threaten you or your family to remove it?

That's handy, I've got two of them that I don't use! Postage must be pricey because they're very heavy.

More about trying to stop someone stealing the car when I'm not here.
