Recommend me a good armchair
Discussion
Hi all,
Moved into a new place in December and my fiancee is going to be studying a lot over the next year for her masters. I've promised her a quiet reading corner but need to find a decent chair and was hoping for some recommendations! So far, a wing back chair seems to be the favourite, but the only one she's really liked is a DFS chair that's £1,100 or so!
Thankss,
Animal

On the budget end of things I have one of these in my office and can happily sit in it for a few hours at a time while wasting my life on conference calls.

I may get knocked for this but .......
Laura Ashley do really comfortable ones.
We had a pair of Padstow chairs in our lounge for almost 10 years, in our remodel last year they didn't fit, but after looking around we went out and bought the same model again but as a large corner sofa.
Just as comfortable.
Wait for the sales, discounts are good and we got interests free as well.

I'd suggest Multiyork.
Head and shoulders above DFS. Seven choices of cushion filling (from feather to the really firm that we have) on any chair, four or five different leg/foot colours and the choice of fabrics is immense. Replacement cushions and covers available to buy for as long as Multiyork exist. All in a much, much more pleasant shopping experience than DFS, even allowed us to take the shop fabric samples home for an hour or so to see which worked best (they are a couple of feet each way in size).
£566 buys you

OK, don't click that as PH is having one of those days. Go to Multiyork and look for a Latimer

If you're on a tight budget, then I'd second this recommendation. I don't have one myself, but I always have a nice sit down in one when I visit the blue & yellow hellhole, and they are very comfortable.http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/sofas-armchairs...
To be really comfortable, the chair needs to be the right size.
Your fiancee should consider the actual seat height, the front to back measurement of the squab, shape of the backrest, and the recline angle.
We went to a furniture store where there are different sizes to try of various styles.
For my chair I have a Stressless recliner and found the small one the most comfortable. My wife has a traditional wing chair, she chose the middle of three sizes.

get one of these, one of the most comfy things I have ever sat in...
Regrettably, an Eames is out of budget. I made the mistake of sitting in one the last time we went furniture shopping and was totally smitten. However, we walked past this on Monday, not something we'd ever of considered but my word it was so, so comfortable. The tweeds you can pick are lovely as well, from wandering into the furniture dept by accident looking for the lifts we are now trying to figure out how we can afford to make a spare room into a snug with which to place them!
