I just don't like Ranger Rovers. I've tried to as family and friends have/had them, but I just don't get the hype.

Range rovers far too big for car park spaces and don't do it for me but this is far more appealing with a real modern twist .

Imo the Evoque has not ages well and is looking dated now. From what little we have to go on, this does look like a more modern interpretation of it.

Am I missing something - where is the Discovery / discovery sport then?
I don't care as they aren't my thing but that's a bit confusing, isn't it?
They arent Range Rovers, merely Land Rovers. Its a badge snob thing.

easy to mock but it looks just what im after.

dont like the discovery as it has a huge arse and dont need 7 seats. rr sport is too big for us and evoque too small and ds has a ste interior.

so velar looks perfect
^^^This, there is definitely a space for a slightly larger, posher Evoque. My only worry is the price tag. With a decently specced Evoque costing £40k+, this looks like it will easily be in the 50's if not 60's if you want a proper one with all the toys!

yes im currently looking at 2016 discovery 4 or a q5 so dont really want to go above 45k which sounds like i wont get much velar frown

do u think it would impact on discovery 4 prices as heard a lot of people were buying d4s as they didnt like the new one but like me might prefer the velar?

Also, wont that take sales off their Jaguar 4x4 thingy?
They´ll *all* sell. These things fly out of the showrooms (not literally).
Yes this. SUV are very popular and hugely profitable. And this means more jobs for british workers. Whats not to like?

Velar was the name on the prototypes of the first Range Rover. BL wrote that in them to keep people guessing as to what it was before unveiling it

Not sure, the D4 and this are slightly different markets tbh. The Disco has always been pitched as the workhorse to the Range Rovers posher SUV's. Not sure what their thoughts on pricing will be, it's possible you may be able to squeeze in a Velar for £45k but I suspect it will be the very bottom of the ladder in terms of spec, not really what you buy an RR for IMO.

Many moons ago you could have a Landy or a Rangie. Now you can pretty much take your pick down to the nearest inch, so long as it's huge.. biggrin

How can you have a relaunch of a model and not talk about the original VELAR?

What idiot decided to use such an iconic name for a niche filling, look-alike SUV?

Shame they didn't have a proper think and come up with something as revolutionary as the original.

I quite like that (at least from that angle). Big improvement on the light design, those on the other RR/LR models are horrid.

There is (believe it or not) a 3rd row of seats option for the Discovery Sport.

Despite them both looking very similar to each other, the Sport is based on the Freelander platform where as the regular Discovery is based on the Aluminium weight-reduced Range Rover platform.

But despite the 7 seat thing (especially since the 3rd row is an option on the 'Sport'), the yo-yoing between Land Rover and Range Rover models is messy and slightly vain.

I have always liked the Evoque, the GF would love one, but I can't deal with the lack of actual practicality with it, its a bit all show for a largeish car. So a slightly bigger one, would be nice, but if right 50-60k? Meh, don't think so!

I'll stick with my lusting of the Stelvio QF smile

I expect the price to very much be £50-60k, as that will almost perfectly link to the base RRS price of (a few quid under) £60k.
